April 2013 Sleevers- Progress check-in

Recommended Posts

Hello All, just wanted to do a check-in on how everyone is doing? I was sleeved on 4/10/13. I started out with a few challenges of nauseousness and dehydration. After getting through the first 3 weeks, I haven't had any problems! I haven't really found anything that I "can't" eat. I haven't tried soft bread or Pasta. I can eat a small amount of rice but I can tell that it fills me up quickly! I love my sleeve and how it keeps me in control. I still fight my head "wanting" certain foods but even if I give in, it only takes a little to satisfy me. I see where lots of folks on here have challenges with getting rid of clothes that are too big! Not me! I'm getting rid of everything! As soon as it gets too big, it goes in the pile for goodwill! Sure, in the past I was afraid of getting rid of my clothes due to fear of regaining it back like I've done so many times before! But, not this time! I am going to be successful! :) So, here's where I am: 5'3, started at 217 and now at 177! Happy Dance! Journey continues on! Good luck to all! :)

Hi we were sleeved the same day. I can eat basically anything but bread (haven't tried if). I do graze on occasions but I stop myself a lot. Dos was 187 and 153 as of today. That's 34 lbs!!! I am 5'1 and a half so on the short side. One thing is that I have only gone down one pant size which is a size 12. If soo frustrating that I stuck in the double digits still.

Hi, I was sleeved on April 24th and I am down 39 lbs. I am on soft foods now...still trying to learn to eat slowly...that has been a challenge. I have tried bread twice and can't tolerate it yet. I still only get about 60gms of Protein a day...feeling great right now. My energy level has greatly improved. Reflux is resolving ....finally! All in all I am doing well.

Sleeved on 4/29 lost 32 lbs so far. Feeling 100% better, 100% happier, and somewhat impatient. I really would have like to lost 40lbs by my 8 week mark but will probably fall a little short of that goal, I weigh in tomorrow. SW 258, current weight 226. I stalled out comletely week 3-6 and increased my calories for a couple of days and boom lost 5 lbs in 3 days. Back down to 700 calories per day so we will see tomorrow. Ive been working out at the gym a couple of times per week but need to increase that to at least 4. Thinking about hiring a trainer to help with the unknown world of weight training.

Surgery on 4/12, SW 252, CW 209.8. I feel heart, can eat anything in small amounts. I rarely have rice or Pasta. When I do, it's maybe a tablespoon or a few forks worth. Haven't had bread yet. I just don't miss it or crave it. I get 60-80 gms of Protein in, and do my best to get 64oz of Water in and 800 calories. I don't worry about fats or carbs for now. All that is advice from my NUT. I have never felt better!

I was sleeved April 8th, and have lost around 30 lbs, I am in a stall now. Haven't lost anything for about a month. I'm trying not to get discouraged  lol. I lost around 100 pounds before surgery so I should expect a stall! I have been able to tolerate everything I've tried. I don't eat bread, pasta's. or anything like that. Not because of my stomach but because I feel wiped out after I do. I have been gluten free for so long my body doesn't like it anymore! :D That's a good thing!! I have gone out to eat a couple of times, but I make wise choices.

What I have noticed that's changed the most is how i feel. I feel amazing! There was a time I could hardly walk without being in pain, and out of breath. It was a struggle. Going to stores I would always get a shopping cart, even if I was going to buy one or two things, or nothing at all. Just because I needed it to lean on, or should I say over. Heck if there wasn't a close parking space I wouldn't even go in to the store. Now I park a good distance, I walk through the store with no cart (unless I need it lol) I feel no pain, I'm not out of breath! I swim laps for an hour a day, and I do Water weights for an hour. I should start doing regular weights but I love being in the water..lol. I don't want to miss any Water time :D

I was sleeved on April 10, 2013 and I have lost 62lbs. I can eat anything except ground beef which doesn't bother me much because I'm not much of a beef eater.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
