February 2007 bandsters!

Is there anyone out there with a February surgery date? I found out last week that mine is on February 1. Was shooting for December 06, then hoping for January 07, now thankful it's finally set for February! My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Malley in Kansas City.

  • I think the person who started this thread for us changed to a March band date. So that could be the reason for you not being put on the list. I wasn't put on there either...so I did it myself. I put

  • Thanks for asking Zannie, When I went in for a check at the weight center, I talked to a doctor about my arms. He said It might give me a boost if I went ahead with this and gave me the name of a plas

Susannah, I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. Did you have any idea that there was anything wrong? Did the Dr. say how this happened so soon? Just curious...did you have any pain along the way?

Hope things go well for you and the new procedure is easy on you.

Michele

I was banded on 2/5/07

Welcome to the group! Everyone here is really supportive and friendly and I have found it invaluable since surgery.

Sussanah,

Im so sorry to hear about your complication. I hope it all works out for you. How annoying.

My complaint seems pretty pathetic in comparison but I am so angry at myself. I had my follow up appointment today and I had advanced to thicker liquids too early. I thought it was one week liquids, one week thicker liquids like creamy type soups (low fat) and then on to mushies. Its not, it was suppossed to be two weeks clear liquids, two weeks muchies/thicker liquids then solid food. Im worried I have done some damage. I also ate some fish cakes the other night when out with friends at a place with no soup, and a bit of bread the other day at lunch dipped in my soup, i felt fine but now worried. My weight has also plateaued I guess maybe as a result of the extra food?

Hi Everyone ! I Was Banded 2/21 And Have Lost 22lbs. Most Of My Gas Is Gone And I'm Sleeping Ok. One Of My Incisions Seems Infected Tho'. Not Gross , But There Is A Fever In It And A Red Circle Around It. Guess I Should Call The Lap Band Nurse. Do Any Of You Feel Your Band When It's A Little Tight. I Swear I Can Feel It All The Way Up Into My Throat Sometimes. I Teach Music And Do A Lot Of Singing And Don't Know If My Diaphragm Is Just Pushing On The Band When I Breath Or What. So I Gueass I Might Belong To Your Pity Party Too ! I'll Bring The Music . ! Gotta Go !

I am eating the same, with my diet- I hope I haven't messed anything up either. Does anyone know?

ArmKam...I am a singer, too. I've wondered about my diaphragm and haven't done much singing since surgery on 2.14.07. You can definetely come to the party...bring the music!!! I can't play by ear!!!

I'm a retired teacher...music..18 years and 1st grade 8 years! How bout that? Two music teachers singing the same song!!!!

Hey Teacher , This Is Just My 4th Day Back To Workso I've Tried To Take It Kind Of Easy , But I've Got 212 Jr High Kids In My Choir And They Can Get Pretty Rowdy And I Have To Be Energetic To Keep Them Motivated. I Am Feeling Pretty Good , But I've Noticed How Hungry I've Been The Last Few Days. I Just Started Mushies Yesterday. I'll Be Glad When I Get My 1st Fill The 1st Week Of April During Spring Break. Gotta Go Sit With The In-school Suspension Kids Now - Fun ! Talk To You All Soon !

Hi Everyone, My surgeon said sometimes the tissue surrounding the sutures can just give way. We are not sure exactly how my port came away from the sutures to be honest. I had felt occasional twinges of pain. but had put that down to healing of the port area. So now I just have to deal with it when I go back to see my surgeon. Susannah

Hi Louise!! I'm a Grobanite also!!! Cool!! Are you on FOJG? Which shows are you going to? I so can't wait!

Yes I am on FOJG under the username of Issy but I don't post a lot. I live in the UK so I only have a choice of 3 shows and only 1 of those was feasible. I'm going to see Josh on May 25th in Birmingham. 4th row seats!! This will be my first Josh concert and I just know I'm going to bawl my eyes out.

Cool we were banded on the same day as well!!!

Thanks KHolmes :girl_hug: !! - Did you find out how much you've lost yet? I didn't weigh myself at all since surgery. Today i had my post op appointment and i'm down 24 lbs that's since my last appointment before surgery on 12/26/06 and It's been 14 lbs in the past 3 weeks! (24 total)

I am sooo happy. My wounds healed very well and look great he said.

Now i'm onto the mushies stage for 4 weeks! woohoo

Hi February Bandsters,

I was banded on Feb 12 and took a little side trip. I have just now caught up on all your posts since I have been gone. Boy do you guys fly:) I think I had 25 pages to catch up on. It has been interesting reading about your bandings and recoveries. Hunger :hungry: and pain :sick seem to be common themes. I had a hiatal hernia fix as well as band placement and for some reason (I neglected to ask the doc) I swelled up tight, so tight I could not get liquids down. I sat in the hospital, hooked to an IV, spitting for 5 days. I was glad to go home but I still was not getting liquids down despite what the doc thought. My pain and anti nausea meds made me sicker so I got suppositories :omg: I know TMI, sorry. I was throwing up 2-3 times a day :cake: (I think my pouch was filling with saliva and when it got full up it came). It was actually a relief because it would take away the feeling of being incredibly full with lots of pressure on my chest. My break through came on day 8 (just in time) when I found out hot tea went through. I slept in a recliner because I had a kind of tugging or constriction feeling at my throat and later reflux issues.

Two weeks after surgery I was able to sleep in a bed and I started back to work half-time. I have gotten better daily but I sure think I am a candidate for the pity party, just let me know when and I will be there;). Is there a silver lining here? Maybe, I missed the shoulder/gas pains. I had them but I was on morphine then so they were not an issue (just a little after I got home) as far as incision or port pain, I haven't even noticed if there was any. Now that I am on "the other side" of my complications I think they were minor in comparison to the inconvenience and discomfort some of you are going through. Hang in there :girl_hug: and hugs to you all.

Good Journey,

Terri

I was banded on Feb. 9th and I feel no pain any longer. I only felt pain near my port site the first two weeks and no gas pain at all.

As far as drinking full liquids too soon....My doctor told me to drink clear liquids the first 3 days and then I could have full liquids and then mushy food on day 9. I got to eat solids on day 21 so I doubt you have done any damage. I stay away from bread and still eat softer foods. I tried to eat some chicken but it didn't go down well. I guess I didn't take small enough bites. However, I don't have a lot of restriction and I don't get full fast enough or stay full long enough. I am using old fashioned will power until I can get my first fill. I do eat much less than before the band so that is making a difference!!

It's strange how there are so many different post op diet instructions. I guess it just depends on your doctor.

Tomorrow is my 1 month bandiversary so I am waiting to weigh myself. I can feel a difference in my clothes so I am hoping for good news.

Good luck to you all!!!

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING IS GRAPHIC AND ABOUT YEAST INFECTIONS SO MALE READERS/ EASILY OFFENDED/GROSSED OUT JUST MOVE ON PAST THIS POST PLEASE.

The antibiotic they gave me to take every 8 hours has absolutely REAKED HAVOC on my body. I don't normally get yeast infections. I'm 37 and have had about 8 in my life and have NEVER had thrush. I SHOULD have known, that if my mouth was overloaded as bad as it was with the thrush that I needed to go ahead and treat my other end for a yeast infection. I'm telling you what, I have NEVER had one EVER that was this bad. I had to leave early from work today and by the time I got home I was boohooing like a big baby. I'm like raw shredded meat down there and am even a little bloody. I took a prescription oral pill for this on Tuesday and it doesn't seem to be helping. My DH, thank god, came home this afternoon (he travels) and got me some maximum strenth itch/burn stuff then went back later after I boo hoo'd and cussed when I had to tinkle, to buy the 3 day treatment stuff. I have been using ice packs on it as well and that seems to help. It seems the worst around my ureathra and clit. It was murder when he was putting on the topical stuff. I'm calling the doc tomorrow, though, I don't think there is anything else we can do since I'm already using the prescrip stuff. I am going to make note of the name of this antibiotic that I was given so I don't ever take it again.

Am I the ONLY one this has happened too? I haven't read about anyone else going through this on my feb & march post. For those of you not yet banded... please speak with your doc about the possibility of getting a yeast infection and see if there are any preventative measures you can take or maybe you can at least get some supplies to prepare for the possibility. After you are banded, if you find that your mouth/tongue starts getting sore and discolored.. PLEASE call your doc and don't wait like I did. I'm really paying for it now.
