February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Suzanne...speaking of where we'll be in a year....I think it would be fun for us all to get together and meet in a year. We could bring one article of clothing that we wore right before surgery to show how much we've lost.

I wonder where everyone is from?? I'm from Texas. We'd have to pick a place that is centrally located for everyone. We could spend a weekend in a hotel somewhere and have a meeting!!! It would be so much fun!!!

What a GREAT idea!

We still haven't heard from a lot of you.....please let us know how you are doing!!!!

Hi,

I would love to join this thread. I was banded on Feb 23rd and had my first fill on April 13th. I was hoping I'd have more restriction, but if I eat slowly and eat my Protein first I do notice some difference. My 2nd fill is scheduled for June 14th.

Erin,

I was also banded on 2/23 and my first fill was 4/12. 1.5CC in a 4cc band

I feel restriction and have to eat slow and smaller bites. My surgeon told me to start taking Calcium tabs, anyone else taking calcium?

I have to take 1 Flintstones chewable and 2 Tums. Maybe taking a Vitamin is good for me, I haven't been sick since surgery. Feb 12th, and I usually catch everything going around. I drive school bus. I'll be having my 3rd fill May 8th, I'm at 1.5cc now with little restriction. Hope the next one does the trick

I think the person who started this thread for us changed to a March band date. So that could be the reason for you not being put on the list. I wasn't put on there either...so I did it myself. I put rdbiles and November Lily on the list. I will take over the list if no one else wants to do it. Anyone else out there a February club member and not on the list???

add me to list banded 2/16

I'm doing fine with band. Haven't lost in 2 weeks even after fill. I wonder if they missed the port.. Not really eat much less than pre-fill, but still a lot less than preband.

Howdy! My MD requests that his patients take 2 children's flintstone Vitamins daily along with one of the calcium chews. Honestly I have only taken them a couple of days. I really need to work on that! I wanted to offer a little encouragement- I was banded on 022307 and have lost approximately 36-38 pounds and I still have approximately 25-30pounds to go. I had basically been at a standstill on the scale for the last 2-3 weeks and was becoming a little frustrated. However since this Monday I have lost an additional 3-4 pounds! I have not changed much in my eating except for cutting out the taking a bite here and there of foods that aren't the best choices. Unfortunately I still haven't found the motivation to start exercising like I should. Anyway- I really believe that sometimes we don't lose because our bodies do need time to "catch up" and adjust to the weight loss and we just need to "hang in there" and "keep on keepin' on" and eventually we will start losing again! Have a great Friday, Y'all!

Mary

What a GREAT idea!

Good thinking! :clap2: I say we treat ourselves & all go on one of the WLS cruises I heard about at my local LapBand support group! :biggrin1: Ya know, with WLS conferences on board, and fellow flappy former fat people to lounge with at the beach/poolside! :)

The least-costly  one I know about would sail in Sept '08 -- 4 Day Western Caribbean Cruise/Conference departing from Miami, Florida on September 8th, 2008, aboard the Carnival Fascination, to Key West, Florida and Calica, Mexico :ip: -- 19-months after our Feb'07 surgeries! If you don't like the SUN idea :heh:, there's a 4 Day Canadian Coastline Cruise/Conference departing from New York on August 28th, 2008, aboard the Carnival Victory in August '08! (Or, heck -- let's all go on the June'08 12-day Mediterranean cruise!:flypig:)

Whadaya say?

Suzanne

Teacher ,

Thanks For Adding Me. A Get-together Would Be Fun Next Summer To See How Everyone Has Done - Not To Mention A Break Away From The Family ! Lol !my Husband Also Taught ( Retired Now For 2 Years ) And We Spend Waaaay Too Much Time Together Every Summer !

As For supplements - I Just Do 1 Children's chewable And 1 Calcium Chewable. I Also Have Been Cold Free Since I Started Taking Them Which Is Great Considering I Teach And Kids Are Always Hugging On Me , Coughing , Sneezing Or Worse !

Have A Great Week-end Everyone !

Hi All,

I haven't posted in a while. I have had two fills first was 1.5cc, second was 1cc, next fill in three weeks. Not having much luck with losing weight. Was down about 20lbs then went on a cruise gained 8 back (ugh, that was before the second fill) Lost it again pretty quickly but still pretty much holding there. I have some restriction but definately need more fills.

Patience, Patience, Patience :)

mel i can totally relate to that one!

i did just about the same thing. I put eight lbs back on due to allergies and the meds knocking me out.

I just had second fill yesterday. I had 1.5cc and he added 1cc.

I come back in six weeks to do it again.

(i live in maine, but was banded and maintain fills in houston)

I hadnt weighed in a while, and was hoping id lost more, but i was only down 4 lbs from last visit. Dr said it was 'great' and that it was common. We talked about the "sweet spot" and he said it really did exist.

im hopeful.

OH found something else out....

i do NOT have a 10cc band. I have a 10 ML band. (big difference)

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
