February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Umm I am seriously the queen of fills. If you are questioing whether you can get one or not consider the fact that I just got my 5th fill (I think...I have kind of lost track it has been that many). I want this thing to work and I want it to start now. I am not willing to sit around and wait for a month when I know I need something now.

Amen to that!! I've just gone over my dieticians head and gone straight to my consultants secretary!

Hi February Bandsters - I just came over for a little encouragement. I'm in bandster hell right now ... my eating is 'ramping up'....I feel no restriction whatsoever, i've been exercising diligently and the scale is not moving at all. In my head I know it will get better. I just need someone who's been there to pat me on the head and tell me it will be alright. :ermm:

I'll go back a few pages and read up on your experiences....that'll help! Thanks in advance! XOXO

Terry,

Why are you discouraged? You've lost 14 pounds in less than a month! That's wonderful. Things get better after you get a fill or two. I just had my 3rd fill last week and it's by far the best restriction I've felt.

Hang in there. This is the time for you to heal and even though you probably feel you can eat a horse, it's also a good time to practice healthly eating habits. If you can make wise choices now, just think how much easier it will be after getting filled.

You're doing great!

I agree with Ambrosia....this is a time for healing....you're doing great, keep up the good work and enjoy life! I was banded on January 18, 07 by Dr. Malley in K.C. and got my third fill about a week ago (3cc in a 4 cc band). Up until now I was hungry quite a bit.....today I was stuck for 2 hours, tears were flowing, praying being done, husband leaving the house so he didn't have to hear it.....you get the picture! Anyway, this is tough, really happy that I'm finally tight enough but like every other phase in this life changing process, it's gonna take some time to learn all the new "rules". For lunch last week I could eat a rueben sandwich.....today I tried to eat Chinese (chicken and brocolli), one bite and I was done for the day. Guess what I'm saying is you'll get there soon enough, enjoy the phase your in and let your body and mind process the changes before you push on to the next phase. Good luck!!

Hello everyone and Good Morning,

Yesterday I was able to wear a belt again. Today I weighed and I've lost 1-2 lbs depending on which way I lean on the scale. Since my first fill, I'm averaging a loss of one pound a week, my second fill is schedule May 12.

Since my fill I can eat almost anything with the exception of french fries; Hamburger steaks require smaller bites. I've been able to curb my sweet tooth with a Designer whey Protein Shake.< /p>

Ok, after 15 minutes of sliming, and spitting into a cup at my desk (started right after my last post) it finally passed. Thank God that's over. And I think I'll go get some creamy Soup for lunch, and some skim milk to thin it down.... Whew!

Don't throw your Triscuits away! Crush them and use as a topping on something you bake.

Oh, good idea.... *getting box of triscuits out of trash can* not really dumpster diving, my trash can was otherwise empty....LOL!

So glad that's over. :faint:

I had my 3rd fill today and I now have a total of 6 ml in my band. So far so good. I'm able to tolerate liquids well so hopefully this is my sweet spot!

You're my band twin! We were banded on the same day, I've also had a 1cc fill, and I've lost 40 lbs as well..... So weird! But good to know that we're on the same track!:clap2:

Travel Girl:

Glad to have a twin out there!!!!!!

Everything here is going great, I'm very satisfied.

Can eat about anything I want (but I don't:scared: )

Still get stuck on meats though.

about how much do u eat?

I drink Protein Shake in morning

continue to drink liquids throughout day

lunch - either Protein shake or about 1- 2oz of meat

dinner - sensible (less then one hamburger or 3 - 4 oz of protein

Snacks ( sunchips, or Jello, or no sugar added rice pudding)

I wonder if everyone else does the same............or even if it is realistic to think that this could be done lifetime. (I'm still content, just wondering how everyone else feels.

Have to get kids ready for baseball!!!! See you all later

Thanks for the info on fills... Man, I really think I need another.

I notice I was almost going to throw up all the Water i've been drinking. I am trying to get in my 6 .. 9oz bottles a day - but it's been hard.

I've been eating pretty much the same stuff everyday....

Dunkin Donuts Tea (skim milk, 2 equals)

A south beach Cereal bar (10 grams of Protein per bar)

Carnation Protein Drink

1 stick of String cheese

Campbell's cup of Soup on the go (chicken and stars or chicken mini noodles)

Another Carnation protein drink.

Wheat thins

dinner always varies... Mostly it's been chicken.

pudding

Water,water,water.

Is this bad????

I am sticking to NOT weighing myself until my next appointment too.

The 3rd fill seems to be the charm. I didn't lose weight with either the 1st or 2nd and was pretty discouraged (while making loan payments on the $16,000 surgery). Anyway, since the 3rd fill, I've lost 10 lbs in 10 days. I'm also following the Protein Shakes during the day (to avoid any unpleasant eating experiences at work). By the way, anyone who isn't taking the Multivitamin and Calcium chew, I highly recommend it. I wasn't at first, and when I started dropping weight quickly I began having the most HORRENDOUS leg and foot cramps. Someone told me to start the Vitamins and the cramps stopped immediately.

Right on Ready!!!

congratulations on your loss!!!! i bet you feel like a million bucks!

Man its good to hear from everybody.

on the ten cc vs ten ml note:

i wish i knew now. because he was talking about my "medium" sized band, not one of the ten cc ones, and i said "but i thought i had a ten cc band", he went to check, came back and said no, it was a ten milliliter band, also known as a medium sized band???

so now im confused...

anyone else have a ten something band ???

its inamed, know that, but does anyone else have a medium band?

Mine's called a 10 cc mid-sized band. I've had 3 fills and am up to 8 cc's. I didn't lose any weight between the 1st and 2nd fills, but have lost 10 lbs in the past 10 days since the 3rd fill.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
