February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I was banded on 2/23/07. I was a little discouraged because I had only lost 13 pounds before my 1st fill, and then 18 before my 2nd fill. I could pretty much eat anything like before until last week when I got my 2nd fill. Wow, what a difference. This thing really works now. I have lost 6 pounds since last Tuesday and am so encouraged now and hopeful. I just wanted to tell everyone to hang in there, I had NO restriction, and now I don't think I could take one more drop of Fluid or I'd be too tight. I simply can't eat much, and so I have to make good choices etc. so I feel good and have energy.

Good luck to everyone, and thanks for all the encouragement along the way.

Gretchen

Zannie,

I feel the same way, bored and unmotivated, I have not deep cleaned my house since before surgery. I straighten up, but don't feel motivated to clean my house like I did before the surgery. I haven't cooked more than two meals since my surgery. I know I'm tired a lot but most of the time I just feel lazy. I don't know what is wrong with me. I'm making an appointment to see my primary care doctor next week. He also has the lapband, maybe he can give me some insight to resolve this problem. But I'm open to any feedback from the group.

Gretchen,

Congratulations on your recent weight loss with the third fill, maybe you've just hit your sweet spot. We were banded the same day and I go in for my second fill next week. Post your stats I'd like to see preop weight, present weight and goal weight.

Hi everyone!

I was banded Feb. 8, 2007 I've not had any problems so far. I did get a bit disappointed at my one month check up because I didn't lose a pound after 13 pounds the first two weeks after surgery. I was ok after my first fill. I'm hoping for more with my second fill. I'm down 36 pounds so far.

Keep up the good work everyone!! We CAN do it!

Rebecca (my DD's name, BTW), I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one! Not that you're going thru this too, but that it's not just me! :D

When I think of depression, I think of SAD/LONELY feelings, not of...bordem & disinterest & lack of motivation. I'm NOT feeling sad or lonely! Someone on another board replied that her doc "warned" that the onset of surgery-related depression started at about 6 weeks post-op. My blah funk didn't start until about 9-weeks out, for what that's worth. And I am enjoying life, when I kick myself into gear to actually live it! :( But my get up & go...got up & went.

I really haven't cooked much either since my surgery. (I have a 1yoDD & a picky 4yoDS, which means I am not required to prepare full meals for my family of 4 -- DH is content with TV dinners for now). And over the last week or so, I've lost interest in really eating myself...the Protein shakes that were torture in the beginning are a convenience food now. If it requires more than melting cheese, it's just too much bother to cook. And cleaning? Um, Mother's Day is around the corner -- how 'bout Molly Maids for Mommy?!? I feel so...lazy! Blah, blah, blahhhh...:tired

I feel like I should be able to shake this off -- ya know, like cabin fever or something. But it seems like too much effort! Oh, I don't know what's up with me lately...but I don't like it! My 2nd fill is a week from today, so I'll bring it up with my surgeon then -- if I'm still feeling so out of sorts.

Thanks so much! I was really struggling there for awhile.

My stats: 292/266/148

I hope I've hit that sweet spot (and I may have written it wrong, but it was after the 2nd fill). I just know it can't be any tighter, and at first I thought it might be too tight. I just need it like this though, to lose weight. I have to have something physically stopping me. It's been 10 days since the fill, and I'm figuring out more and more what goes down the best etc. Somedays, and at different times I can eat more than others, it's just really interesting. That 2nd fill made ALL the difference. I was a little tighter after the first, but nothing near this, I could still eat just about anything and as much as I wanted.

Good luck on your next fill!! Gretchen

I am feeling the same way. I was banded on 2/5. I just had my 2nd fill last night. I now know what it feels like to be banded.

I never had to follow that "sip sip sip" rule. I could always gulp. I am sipping for the first time ever!!!

(Actually, I hope I'm not too tight, as when I take to large of a sip, I feel as if I have to burp!!)

Well, I have to do 2 days liquid, 2 days mushie, then advance to solids. Lets see how it works.

But it is CRAZY feeling restriction for the first time!!!

Lets see if I realize any additonal weight loss!!!!!!!

Good luck to all:)

I am so glad I came online. I went for my first fill this week. It was done under x ray and they played it back to me after the fill. It was amazing to see the Fluid wooshing through the first time and then after he inserted the Fluid you could see it pooling. He placed too much in at first and it was jumping up and slosshing down. He released some and I ended now have 6 mls (Not that I know how big my band is?)

I feel exactly the same I finally feel some restriction. I also feel feally low that I can not eat! Go figure I have been waiting since feb to feel this feeling!!! :faint:

Ok, so like I said I was filled the other day.

I was really tight. But tonight I can actually "gulp" again. I haven't tried real food yet. (Tomorrow I start mushies) But it is nice to be able to take a reasonable size drink. I hope it works with the food.< /p>

Tonight was a real test of my will-power - My daughter had a celebration and she chose Mexican food, I ate chicken broth!!!!!!!! :think How lame!!!

hi guys!

banded feb 13.

very slow loser too. I even went through a phase of gaining back wieght, then losing, then slowly regaining, then losing...My dr says im not filled enough yet. I was scheduled for my third fill to be June 6th, but im wide open again, and can eat things like a 12 oz steak and not feel any restriction. when i go back on liquids, i feel restriction, but my nutritionalist doesnt want me on liquids for too long at a time, and doesnt like that im establishing it as a habit...so i moved my appointment up at her suggestion and im leaving maine to go to houston in about eight days (appointment may 23) for fill number 3!

im HOPEFUL. My second fill worked great for a few days, then i slowly got more open. My doctor says there is a sweet spot, and im hoping to hit it this time...

Hi, I also noticed that my hair is falling out when I wash it. I have short hair and it is already fine, so I may go bald! LOL I also have not lost much weight either. I got off to a bad start, the week after my surgery, I got blood clots in my legs and I its been a very slow come back for me.

Have you been taking your vitimans? Good luck with your hair.

Debbie

I'm not alarmed yet, but YES, mine is falling out now more than it was a few weeks ago. I put a hair trap down on the shower floor this weekend... :phanvan Lucky for me, I have tons of hair (even if it is baby fine) and stylists are always saying "we'll thin this out a bit" when I get my hair cut!

Biotin (a vitamin) is what everyone at my clinic uses to help with hair-loss. I didn't take anything extra than what a Multi-Vitamin offers...but it was recommended. Hindsight!!!

I'm also losing hair but like Suzanne I have a lot to spare so I'm not too worried at the moment.

I'm having a hard time keeping motivated with the eating at the moment as I've only lost 5lbs since early April. I know I need to exercise but I'm so tired after work it's all I can do to sort the house and the kids out! I'll get there in the end though.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
