February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Things are going well here, although I still have my moments. I am very restricted after my 2nd fill (nothing before then). I had lost about 22 pounds up until 2 1/2 weeks ago, and now I've dropped another 14, so I'm so happy the band is finally working for me. It was so slow at the beginning, but I feel much more confident now. It seems like everyone is doing really well. Take care.

My fill on Monday has made a huge difference in my eating. I am eating less than half of what I was before it and I have kicked the plateau in the behind and have lost 3 pounds since Monday!

I had my 2nd fill a week ago Thursday. I'm up from 4cc to 6.2cc in a 10ccVG band. But it feels as if I've had an unfill! I swear I can eat more now than before my 1st fill! This is crazy! :) I'm watching the "whats" but the "how much" is more than 1/2 cup of food... :) I've lost 2 or 3 pounds in the week since the fill according to my home scale (unreliable however), but I am hungry between meals (growling now) & eating more than band-portions at meals.

AND I'm craving all sorts of stuff during the day, too! :hungry: Not that I'm giving in to those cravings for the most part, but that's only my willpower stopping me from heading out to buy food! I don't know what's going on here!!

:help: Would the rest of you call in for another fill so soon (keeping in mind that slow-n-steady reportedly has better long-term success than fill-fill-fill), or keep on keepin' on until June 21st (my next scheduled fill)? It's Friday now & my clinic only does fills on Thursdays, so it'd be 2 weeks between my 2nd & 3rd fills. What do y'all think? :)

Suzanne you know you are talking to the queen of fills here! I have had as little as a week between two fills. If you are hungry and you can eat too much then go get a fill.

Hello everyone,

I found the February Bandsters. I was banded 02/15/2007 before band weight 352, day of band 334 and now 05/25/2007 208 with one fill. After reading everyone quotes, I'm go to call the doctors for a fill appt. I love reading everyone quotes. I dringk over 68 oz of Water a day. Don't do well with my first meal of the day, maybe three bites of eggs, but lunch and dinner can eat much more before feeling full.

Thanks,

Wallygirl

Hi, Wallygirl! Are you still losing weight? That's usually what they go by when it's time to fill or not to fill. If you're still losing approx. 2 lbs a week, then you probably don't need a fill. Looks like you've lost a little more than I have. (I'm hoping you meant that you were at 308 now, if you're really at 208, I better hustle my butt to figure out what I'm doing wrong!!!! LOL)

Oh, and WELCOME to the Feb 07 bandsters thread! I don't know how to add people to the list, and I thought teacher was going to take over that function, but I haven't seen her on here in awhile..... I'll see if I can figure it out....

I just made my appointment for a fill on Tuesday. I've stopped losing weight and I can eat quite a lot more than I should right now. The other night, I made salmon patties, and ate 2 1/2 of them PLUS about a cup of hashbrown casserole. That's still not as much as I would have eaten pre-banding, but DANG! that was a lot of food. Decided enough of this, already, I'm ready to get losing again, I'm already exercising almost every day.

I got a tiny fill on Tuesday, and I'm finally losing weight again. I feel like I've found my sweet spot...on a total fill of .9cc!!

hey guys..

i dont know if i posted this on here yet, but i went in for a third fill and my surgeon found a large leak in my band! I was in surgery the next day to replace the band and that was yesterday. Im in pajamaland in my hotel recovering. Im so glad he caught it. I could have went on for months not knowing. i had no other symptoms other than i could eat large amounts of food.

He added a lot, then couldnt pull any back out, and i could still drink multiple cups of Water without problem (with ten ccs in a four cc band)...so its all done now.

im even excited about the change. its a new model of the inamed band and it feels SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable than the other band felt just regular. so, okay my pain meds are kickin in and im going to go lay down. i just wanted you guys to know what happened to me, and that it just happens and that its okay.

Im going to wind up even better off than i did coming down here!

Beth -- so good to hear from you! I'm glad that your leak :D was caught so early on... Whew! Do you know what size band you have now? I recall all the confusion when this topic came up with your original one! :biggrin1: How long will you be in TX? I presume you've got to treat this like the original surgery never happened, expecting the same recovery time & food restrictions etc...am I wrong? Just think -- this time you know exactly what's in store! I wish you a speedy return to full health and load of luck with your new band! Keep us updated...though I guess you get to be a Feb & a May bandster now!

hahaha! yeah im multiple band months now, a born again bandster! lol...

Yep, the surgery is exactly the same. They took out the old and put in the new in one swift swoop. Im on Clear liquids for three days, then full liquids for four days, then mushy and pureed foods for a week, and im not to TOUCH or even think about full solids until two weeks from the surgery has passed.

its a bit tougher though because i dont have the same kind of healing time here. i had today to sleep on couch and watch tv, but tomorrow i go to an aunts house in vidor, then Tuesday morning i see dr st laurent again for followup and checking everything, then i go directly from there to the airport to catch the flight home. (five hours on a tiny plane should be a blast)

i wish i could just stay where im at for a few days its so quiet, but i dig my aunt and shes been a godsend in this thing. Ill enjoy visiting with her.

Im excited about this new step, and im really lookin forward to having real restriction. Still though, its not bad that ive lost 45 lbs so far eh?

and im hungry. i had some chicken broth lastnight and today and it was HEAVEN...i got down a soy based protien shake waterd down and WOW i never thought id tasted anything so good. i had to break it in half but still.

OH and i forgot about this part.

i was groggy when he came in to tell me about the upgrade....and i could be totally wrong but i think i now have a bigger size band, like a ten ccthis time, and its already half filled to five cc. Im fairlly sure thats what got said, but ill double check. hes great about going over parts imnot clear on.

we did a flouroscope and it really couldnt look more perfect. im to come back to houston in a month for an adjustment and a recheck to make sure everything is groovy.

I LOVE MY SURGEON!!!

i actually feel significantly better than i did.

Lizbit, I'm so glad that you're surgeon discovered your problem and promtly took care of it! You've really done an amazing job with your weight loss considering the leak! You go, Girl! It sounds like everyone else is doing great also. I know I don't post often but I do lurk here almost every day. I was banded on Feb. 23 and have lost about 40 pounds so far and have about another 30 to go. I have had 2 fills totalling 5.2cc in my 10cc band. I do feel that I've got pretty good restriction but I am still struggling with the head hunger. I find myself reaching for poor choices that go down easily when I am bored, stressed, etc. I am trying to work on that! I also haven't been exercising like I should but I am really hoping that I can improve with that! I am basically able to eat any foods that I want, although for some reason I've been scared to try any bread so I'm not sure if I would tolerate it or not. I am much tighter in the mornings and am usually only able to get down coffee very slowly. By lunch I am able to eat anything I want. Overall I am very pleased with the band, and I fully understand that it is a tool and that I need to "step up my game" in my exercise and managing my head hunger! Keep on keeping on, Y'all!

Mary

Hey Guys , Well our 6 Flags trip went well. I even rode a new Tony Hawk Skateboard Rollercoaster . YeeHaw ! It was fun and I felt good.

Congrats Lizrbit - I hope that you're feeling better every day , and feel good with your new band ! Having the band is the best decision I've ever made.

I'm going in for my 3rd fill on 6/12. I could 've had it sooner , but I've got pretty good restriction still and have decided not to rush things. I'm still losing also. Even tho' I'm tight in the a.m. , I can eat a decent portion by suppertime.

My girls get annoyed that I tell so many people about my band , but I'm excited about it and I've already had 5 or 6 ask me for info. and how they can get in touch w/ my surgeon. Hey , maybe I should be getting a commission for the references ! lol

Gotta go , painting the kitchen today ! Have a great holiday week-end everyone !

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
