February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on February 12. My steri-strips have all fallen off or been removed. This morning I noticed what looks like a stitches sticking up through the end of my port incision. It looks like short plastid threads (kind of like fishing line or a very thin version of the kind of plastic that they use to affix labels to new clothes). Has anyone else noticed this?

Debbie

Debbie, pour alcohol over a pair of scissors or nail clippers to sterilize them and just clip those ends off.

I had my follow up appointment on this past Thursday. I found out that I am not getting enough calories. The Dr wants me to consume an average of 1200 a day. I am only consuming on average 700 calories a day. I am just not that hungry yet. I have started to add some things to my Protein Drink to add calories. I am starting with strawberries, cherries and now that the stores have untainted Peanut Butter, I am going to try that as well. Yesterday I allowed myself to splurge a tiny bit…I had some cheese and toppings off of a slice of the pizza the guys got. With that I made my 1200 calories.

I am just now starting to physically see some of the weight loss, even though the scales have shown it since the surgery. The Dr said that the swelling is starting to go down.

I have my appointment for my first fill. It will be on May 9th. A coworker has just received her last fill. She is soooo close to goal. She is has given me so much motivation.

If your stage 3 is like mine..mushies... I was surprised to hear I could have cereal! Just has to be really soggy. Hope that helps! :) I'm still on Clear Liquids for this week, then creamy stuff for two weeks...so basically 3 weeks til mushies! YAY!

I was just banded the 7th of mar. I have to do liquids only for two weeks. Then mushy or pureed one week, then 4th week soft foods only. 5th week intro back to solid food but vry slowly.

I can't believe that our thread has reached page 2 so I thought it was about time it was bumped back to the top!

I'm actually feeling pretty good at the moment despite not losing any additional weight for nearly 2 weeks. I keep telling myself that 13.5lbs in 4 weeks is still good. Hopefully I will get my first fill this week and then I can really crack on with losing the flab!!lol!!

Hi LouiseR,

I was banded on 02/27/07. I have lost 10lb since surgery but the 10lbs was in my 1st week. I have not lost a pound since and it will be 2 weeks on 03/13/07. I been on nothing but liquids. I know thats good, but i kinda feel like you when you said you have not lost any weight in 2 weeks. i thought another 9 or 10lbs would have came off by now.Good Job on your weight lost and keep it up. I hope when i get my 1st fill(have not got a date) the pounds will continue to drop

mlbmtn - - I know how you feel, I was banded on 2-12 and lost 15lbs. now I'm just trying to stay put till a fill (3-29). My nutritionist said this is a time when people gain what they have lost. So to watch what I eat:hungry: because once the swelling goes down from surgery you won't have the restriction that you had right after surgery. Hang in there.

So, This is what they call "Bandster's Hell"......eating next to nothing, before the first fill, trying to "pretend" you have a fill.... and not losing.

I've been stuck for days and really don't like it. I want to lose fast. I've been big for so long...and now I've done this to my body and

darn, darn, darn that scale!!!!:girl_hug: Thanks, just needed to type that...now I feel better!!!! I'll go have another bottle of water!!!!!

Love you guys, thanks for all the support...It's my favorite place to read...the Fabulous, Fun, February Bandsters!!

Synicalchick....hope you are feeling better today!!!

I agree, I agree! Still always hungry, no fill until the 23rd, and can eat almost anything!

I want to lose too, I keep hoping that going to the gym helps.

Yeah, how are you, Synicalchick?

I agree too! A relief to know I'm not alone, although I feel bad for everybody else that is at this point. It is almost as hard as dieting was before I got the band. I lost 15 pounds the first 3 weeks after banding...then nothing for the past week and a half. This is despite journaling everything I eat (highest day was 1500 calories, most were between 1100 and 1200). I finally joined Curves on Friday. I hope that helps! This time before the first fill sure is frustrating!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
