February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2/27/07 and have lost 20 pounds although it has not budged for the last couple of days. I was dreadfully ill, nausea and vomitting and had to be kept an extra day in the hospital, then had to be taken care of by family for another few days. That first week, I had big regrets.

Now - I am doing GREAT and I'm so glad I had it done. I cannot imagine putting myself through that much illness had I known that would happen going into the surgery, but in the end, it will be a small price to pay.

I can honestly already tell a difference in just losing 20 pounds (I weigh 261 today and I am only 5'2" so that is a lot of weight on such a small person but I already feel better than I did 2 weeks ago at 281 !!!

Amazingly, 10 years ago I wore a size 4. My son commented last night that I was too skinny a few years ago, but I had such extreme discipline at that point in my life. I got sick, and just decided to eat whatever I wanted and then created another problem for myself and simply could not lose the weight - in fact, I just continued gaining.

Soooo a new chapter in my life has happily just begun !!!! :)

Best to all !!!!

I feel great today. Finally turned that corner.

Yinfec is under control & I can totally sleep on my side now!

Thursday I went to bed (the 1st night I was able to sleep on my side) and I woke up 14 hours later! I needed it.

We have been blessed with BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS weather today. I'm sitting here at my computer, ate my prune yogurt, drinking my coffee, have the patio door open, birds are chirping, my windchimes are chiming, the smell of burning sage is in the air and all is right with the world. I may even be able to talk DH into walking at the zoo today. Nasvhille has a really beautiful zoo and I have a membership.

I hope no one has been discouraged by my whiny post, I just wanted to be as honest as factual as possible because I like to know what's up before hand.

Now that I'm on the other side of things, I know I've done the right thing and I'm really excited about my future. I have a normal to small sized husband, he married me at almost my top weight, so I'm excited to see where this takes our relationship as we are able to do more outdoor activites together.

Hi Synical....So glad to hear you are feeling better. You've really been through it!! I think we should all just be honest about how we're feeling. It helps to know we're not alone. This is no piece of cake. Some people (unintelligent people) think we are taking the easy way out. WRONG!!!

But, still, no regrets.

My surgery was on the 14th of February and I'm just now able to sleep on my side...carefully. yea!

I agree too! A relief to know I'm not alone, although I feel bad for everybody else that is at this point. It is almost as hard as dieting was before I got the band. I lost 15 pounds the first 3 weeks after banding...then nothing for the past week and a half. This is despite journaling everything I eat (highest day was 1500 calories, most were between 1100 and 1200). I finally joined Curves on Friday. I hope that helps! This time before the first fill sure is frustrating!

I know it's so frustrating not to lose anything when you're trying so hard. I think it may have something to do with the body going into starvation mode and trying to conserve as much fat as possible. Rest assured the weight will start to come of again. I have begun to lose again at a slower rate.

Yes, it does help to hear that other people are in the same boat. Or then again, is it misery loves company? Most likely not, as it is also good to hear that the others are now doing better, after going through a rough patch, too.

I am so bummed though, as I was finally beginning to feel good, back to normal, doing good things, taking Vitamins, Protein, going to the gym, eating better, and now I have one heck of a cold! Boy am I sick!

Sheese, guess a couple more days then I will be back..........

I wonder why you were told to avoid oatmeal. I am pretty sure that is the only Cereal my doctor wants me to eat. Most other cereals are full of sugar. I buy the tub of instant oats, add Water, splenda, and cinnamon to it, and that works great for me.

Oatmeal is supposed to reduce bad cholesterol, and cinnamon is good for maintaing blood sugar levels. And it is also a soft food.< /p>

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm doing well. I was banded on Feb. 5th. Including 2 week pre-op diet I have lost 30lbs!!!!!!!! (Very excited).!!!

Haven't lost anything in about 2 weeks though, :)

I know I'm not eating enough.

Can those of you banded around my time frame please give me some examples of what your now eating and how much.

I have just eaten lunch, (about 2 tablespoons of egg salad) - today is the first for that. Any advise would be appreciated.

Having another great day today... This week starts my working full days.. FINALLY. didn't quite make it last week. Been sipping on vanilla chai Protein all a.m. and it's a little after noon and I was hungry so I'm eating my tuna and multigrain crackers. HOLY JEEZ. I'm not restricted really but big bites of tuna are a  NO NO:kiss . I took two large/normal bites with a normal size fork (left kiddie spoons at home) and WHAM:faint: ... kind of very uncomfy. so... must stick with little bites. I have got to get myself trained before the 1st restriction, because as you can see from my previous post.. I REALLY don't care for pain.

Seems like we're on the same track.... I've lost right around 30 lbs since the pre-op diet, as well, and was banded on the same day. I am starting to be able to eat pretty normally now, which is a bit worrisome, but it's still WAY WAY less than I would have eaten before banding, and my first fill is scheduled for March 30. For lunch, I had 2 wasa crackers, both topped with a slice of swiss cheese and a few slices of deli-thin sliced ham, and was very full. It's still a challenge some days to drink all the Water I'm supposed to drink, but most days, I at least come close.

I aim for getting around 1200 calories a day, because if you consume less than that, your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on even more stubbornly to any fat reserves that it has.

My doc said that I should expect very little restriction once the swelling goes down (which apparently it has), and to expect to be hungry, and that it's perfectly fine to feel that way, and to go ahead and eat a little more, so that I'm satisfied. That's what the fills are for.

That being said, I still find myself being able with very little effort to keep my calorie intake between 1200 and 1500/day.

I track my food intake on www.fitday.com, and that has helped me a lot. I don't have to try to remember how many calories was in this or that, it keeps track for me. And once you add in a custom food in case it's not built in already, it stays in there, so you can use it again and again.

I hope this helps! Can you believe it's been over 5 weeks now since we were banded?

You Rock!

But will you pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaase tell me where to get the prune yogurt?

I am glad your yinfec is under control.

You have the right attitude with doing more activites outdoors, when I am heavier I resist going outdoors but I really want to do more outdoors just like you.

Right ON!

Don't forget the prune yogurt source

Kroger my little chickie.. Kroger.

I walked for THIRTY MINTUES outside today on my lunch break! HOORAH HOORAH HOORAH! I can tell I've lost too because pre op/diet walking from my truck to my desk winded me and made my lower back SCREAM:faint: this time I was burping and tooting like a maniac and my middle back by my shoulder blades was protesting so I went to like.. you know.. stretch my middle back by bringing my elbows back... Holy Frickin Frogs Teeth.. IT HURT. won't be doing THAT again any time soon. Sheesh!

hahahahah you said frogs teeth...

no but seriously, synical, i look forward to your posts because you are honestly describing your experiences! they DO HELP other people coming right behind you wondering the same thing sometimes or at least give a heads up about stuff that can happen and im grateful. Its one of the main reasons for joining the board, to find out what other bandsters experiences are!

im still struggling today. I really overdid it last night at a restraunt with friends, and i had cheese manicotti and TWO BITES of bread. Something about a) the amount of the food i ate plus  BREAD! WHAT WAS I THINKING? and c) Pasta. oh. beautiful pasta...and i was miserable all night last night. im back to REAL softies today, Maltomeal for breakfast, three oz whitefish fillet and tom and rice Soup (i love the condensed w/o Water i know its wierd) and im still Ravenous. Capital R. avinous. :whine: what you said your dr said was comforting. ill keep that in mind this week. I go in on the 19 for my first fill.

im dying for real food.

oh hey..i just read the back of my guacamole package...i didnt know a SERVING SIZE was TWO TABLESPOONS! fifty calories....with fifteen servings per package...and i used to eat a whole package..how many calories does that add up to?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
