Recommended Posts

I was also 5/23 and we are only 2.5 weeks out not 4 weeks out...I'm only eating about 300/400 calories per day...is this not normal?

My surgery was may 13th..sorry. Brain fart....

I've stalled for the last 6 days, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hitting a stall so early on! Hoping it picks back up soon if I stick to the plan given to me :)

I was sleeved on 4/29. Not May, but close. I hit a stall for a few weeks and thought all that I had just done was for nothing. Who gets 85% of their stomach cut out and still can't lose weight?

But I joined the Y, started working out on the elliptical. I started only being able to do 15 minutes at a time and slowly started adding 5 and 10 minutes. I went for an hour for the first time this past Sunday. But the 2nd day on that machine I broke that plateau. Broke it good. Now I can see a direct correlation to the harder I work my body, the better the scale moves.

So keep eating the right things. If walking isn't working, try riding a bike. Switch things up a little bit. You'll get there. After all, nobody goes to get 85% of their stomach cut out and their body won't drop the weight.

I stalled for 8 days... Today was the first day the scale moved again... Lost another pound. :) I was freaking out too. Did my nerdy happy dance when I saw I lost it. I don't think I've ever been happier to lose one pound!

Haha I'm sure I will be the same! I need to stop stepping on the scales every morning I think and stop stressing out over it for a few days!

im so stinking mad at my scale I could scream. I was sleeved on 5/3 went down to 231 (from 260) and then back up to 233.4 where it refuses to move. The last few days I have had a tough time eating and drinking and now have a cold, sore throat, canker sore, headache and am dehydrated. 3 stinkin days of misery and nothing lost. Ugh. How DUMB is that?

Sleeved May 13. No pre-op liquid diet, but during the 6 months monitored pre-diet I lost 60 lbs. I'm down another 25-30 since surgery. According to the surgeon, I lost 22% of my excess weight by two weeks after surgery. I go in tomorrow for the 4 week numbers.

I'm glad to know I was not alone in the stall after the 2 week liquid post-op diet. The scale just edged down a bit more in the last day or so.

I'm not watching calories (they're always below 1000) but I'm counting my Protein pretty dilligently. I'm using myfitnesspal and have added the recipes they gave me at the office for pureed foods to my database.

I start soft foods tomorrow. Two weeks after that, REAL food again! (that even still looks like food). I was so happy to get from liquid to puree.

I walked the first two weeks, and went back to the gym last week. I am definitely not at full strength. I also went back to work, and that's a bigger pain in the rear due to trying to eat on a schedule and dealing with the pulling demands of the manufacturing plant. :(

5 weeks post op update. Surgery on 05/06/13

I was in a stall day 11-23 at 205 lbs. since then I've been losing slowly but steady. So those of you in a stall right now, just keep going, you have to start losing eventually. :)

I've been eating 300-500 calories a day and 30-50 oz Water per day. About 50-60g Protein, half the Protein is from shakes. I am stuffed from eating about 1 oz of meat and it takes 30 mins to get it down. I know I need to eat and drink more, but I'm never hungry and sometimes the smell of food makes me nauseous. Every once in a while I will crave something, but after a bite I'm satisfied. I've started going to the gym and I'm doing the couch to 5k training and the 30 day squat challenge. I can already see loose skin on my thighs and arms so I'm focusing on working those muscles in particular.

Stats

Height 5'1"

HW 232 (03/06/13) BMI 43.8

SW 216 (05/06/13) BMI 40.8

5 WK 198 (06/10/13) BMI 37.4

GW 125 (Jan 2014) BMI 23.6

Excess weight lost 32% (34 lbs lost divided by 107 lbs overweight)

Inches lost since 2 week pre op diet:

Waist 3"

Hips 3"

Thighs 2" each.

May sleevers, you are doing awesome! Stall or no stall. Keep it up! I'm glad I don't have a scale because it is discouraging when it doesn't move or moves so little. Our brains want to see dramatic loss all at once, but as another poster said we didn't gain it all at once either. For those of you who weigh yourself everyday or several times a day maybe hide the scale in the garage where it's not convenient and weigh yourself once a week :) Just a thought!

I am very happy and encouraged when I read these posts...I read every one even though I don't respond to all of them...I can relate so much to what most of y'all are saying

I weighed in this morning for my 4 week check up. According to their records my presurgery weight was taken April 18 when they did my history and physical, even though my surgery was 5/13.

I'm down 30 pounds since surgery. I lost 23 the first two weeks, and 7 in the past two weeks. I was concerned because the scale wasn't moving as fast, but I'm also getting more hydrated and better nutritional balance on puree than I did on liquids. (Today I move to soft! Yay!)

By percentages, I had 98 lbs excess weight before surgery, and that means I've lost 31% of my excess weight since surgery. I need to caution that this loss is in addition to the 57 lbs I lost before surgery - so I am in a good spot in terms of fitness and have my body trained to lose.

I'm glad to read that we're all at different points. It reinforces what they keep saying at my surgeon's office: Everyone is different. Don't compare yourself to anyone.

Good luck everyone!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
