Recommended Posts

I went from 600 -800 up to around 1000. I added a whey Protein shot which is 180 cal and a muscle milk which is 170. That Protein shot has 42 gms.

Thanks for sharing! How much have you lost since you upped your calories?

I am super frustrated! I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds for over 2 weeks! This week will make 3 weeks, so I am hoping to see a drop by the end of the week. I guess this is the 3 week stall everyone talks about - I say it is BS!!! UGH!!!!! Going to try something different this week and go back to having 2 Protein Shakes a day and a light dinner. Also going to try and up my Fluid intake, even though I don't see how that is possible since I am drinking Water every second of the day! GRRRRRRRRRRRR

How long ago was your surgery ?? I hit about a 2 week span where I stayed stuck at 260. But I then started taking Metamucil at night and it made me more regular and I started losing more and more weight. My typical daily diet is a hard boiled egg in the morning or a bagel with. Cream cheese. At lunch I have a small salad or like 1/3 can of tuna and at night I have like a hamburger just the pattie with cheese or even that's too much sometime. I mix in about 4 liters of Water a day and 1 or 2 freezies. Also on days I work out, I have a pre work out shake then a Protein Shake after the work out. Also, remember that if you're in the solid food stage you shouldn't be substituting meals with Protein Shakes. I find on days I try and eat more, I lose more weight. It's weird

I hear different things from different people as far the the Protein shakes go. My doctor said to drink them as long as I want to, I know some doctors say to get your Protein from food. It is frustrating how they are all so different!! I wish they all stuck to the same plan, then maybe we wouldn't all be so confused!

I usually have a Protein Shake in the morning with 1 tsp Peanut Butter and 1 banana, blended. For lunch, I usually have either turkey and cheese roll ups (2) or yesterday I had about 2 slices of fajita meat and about a tsp of refried Beans. For dinner, I have either shrimp, chicken, hamburger, steak, tuna or eggs... just whatever I am in the mood for. I drink at least 70 oz of Water a day and I drink one G2 Gatorade (12 oz) while I work out. (I work out Mon - Fri). For Snacks, I usually have a string cheese and at night a sugar free popsicle. I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I truly feel like I will stay at this weight for the rest of my life! (Which, by the way, I know is crazy talk since I am only a month post op!)

mystigal, your diet plan is similar to mine--I am 7 weeks out though--although I think I am eating a little more than you with solid foods...for example I could probably have 3 slices of fajita meat (if they weren't especially thick slices) and more like a couple of tablespoons of refried Beans :o I can't get in as much liquids as you do...but you've already lost more than me, and I am three weeks ahead of you post-surgery...I just keep telling myself to stay with the plan and not get frustrated at how slowly I am losing

danbo, I have also many times here on the message board expressed frustration with the varying recommendations among surgeons and NUTs...at 7 weeks out, I have been trying to get most of my Protein from foods and just supplement as needed with the Protein shakes...well, when I touched base with my NUT a week or two ago, she told me the opposite; i.e., that I should be getting most of my protein from the shakes with very little coming from food...I for sure believe she would think I am eating too much food quantity wise, but I have been keeping track of my daily calorie count, and it is averaging about 600 to 700...I take all my Vitamins, too, but I am so tired all of the time I am fearful of cutting back too much on the calories..very frustrating

I have being reading and once you start working out you stop lossing for a few weeks this is do to your body getting used to it. Once you continue doing it you will continue lossing weight dont get frustrated you will eventually lose more and my doctor told me to stop the Protein Shakes once a started solids every one is different but I just follow my doctor rules.

I was sleeved on 5/22. I lost 14 pounds in the first 10 days then I stalled for almost three weeks. Now I'm 5 weeks out and lost a total of 16 pounds. I know that I don't get all my Water in but I do get close. I work out for an hour 3-5 days a weeks burning 300-350 calories. I am losing inches so I guess I'll take what I can get but I am frustrated.

I was sleeved May 22. I have lost 26 lbs. once I started getting my Protein and Water and increased my calories to 800-1000 I lost weight. If I eat breads or go over 1000 cal I will gain. It's such a fine line. This journey certainly does not resemble anything I was told prior to the surgery. But I am glad I did it. I know that in time I will lose the weight. I will not give up.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
