how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?

Recommended Posts

I started the IIFYM last week, prior to IIFYM I averaged about 800 cals, now its about 1000, and the IIFYM wants me at 1545 cals, 41 carbs, 191 Protein (!!), and a whopping 40g fiber! For about 2 weeks now I have really focused on weight training and I have *gained* 4 pounds, don't know what will happen now that I'm throwing higher cals etc. into the mix. I'm nowhere near IIFYM yet but still ...

I am so scared of eating a lot!

This is just my personal experience, but I have recently been raising my calorie level, from 800-900 to 1000-1200. I was stalling way too much. I track all of my food on MFP, and follow those forums as well. I have been doing quite well in the last few weeks- made onderland and lost 2-3 lbs per week. I also am actually enjoying food and feeling pretty satisfied. I limit carbs to less than 100. I admit I don't get the recommended amount of Protein everyday, though. I don't drink shakes- haven't had one of those in a couple months. I exercise most days of the week- Zumba, swimming, elliptical, and walking. I think it can be really beneficial to increase your calories in a reasonable way. Also, eating like a "normal" person can help us in the long run to keep the weight off. Good luck everyone!!!

I did not know slugs had the bone structure to get crippled. Lol. It would either have to be stepped on or salted, both which win the slug a Darwin award.

Self-salting slugs would seem so sad.

Yes we got this. I figured first thing in the morning 24oz of Water along with 1 protien shake and start walking. And I will figure it out snack and lunch when I get back. We CAN and WILL do this! !!!

Do three cups of coffee count as my morning Water? :P

Ok I'm going to start thinking about exercise now.. And after a bit of thinking I might even start

:D

I do not think you can count coffee as a daily Water source for the same reason you cannot count pop.

The TDEE calculator said to consume 2062 calories with 1 gram of Protein per lb I weigh. Thats alot of Protein. 202 grams wow.

1g protein per pound is based on lean body weight. Use your height and factor a BMI of 21-23 that will get you close to your lean body weight.

Personally I think that 1g/lb is a bit high for anybody that is not a professional athlete, but I'll leave that one alone because though more than you need, it really won't hurt.

Laura, forget about the hard stuff. You are doing great getting in more Protein. Just try to walk some every day and make it a habit. This is the easiest way to start. Try to go the same time every day. Start with 15 minutes a day if you can (or whatever length works for you), then up it each week by 5 minutes. Try to get to at least 30 minutes a day (you can do 15 in the morning and 15 in the evening). You will be amazed at the difference this will make. Always start small with doable things, then work up. I'm up to about an hour a day. I hate exercise, too.

Laura you could buy this DVD for $9 on Amazon I believe and start there. There are 12 minute miles and 15. 5 different ones and you do whatever you want every day. It's how I started and I still do them. I can only finish about a mile and a half. I've been doing these DVDs off and on for 3 year

Hey Nadoue,

I like what OTR said up here.. Basing it on a slightly lower bmi I'm not sure what you bmi is but mine is no where near 21!

I can't believe that 150 g staring at me' date=' my math has to be wrong[/quote']

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
