Hey out there,

Can we help each other and give more support? I know we can. Sometimes we are so busy leading our own lives we forget just how far we have come and what a difference we can make helping someone else who is just starting out. If people would take more time to think about ways they can make others feel good about their choices or answer some of their questions, or offer some support it might mean the world to that person. I know when I was starting I had some delightful ladies who were always right there for me—THANKS LADIES! I had a million questions, and they always answered all my questions. I had a million questions and they were always so nice to answer all of my questions.

Perhaps the best way is simply through sharing sincere compliments, answering the question that they are asking and do it sincerely. It just takes a few minutes to do this. How about looking for ways to compliment them on their success or their choice to have weight loss surgery? It will make both of you and the people reading these posts feel a lot better. You are all very important. Just because we make different choices doesn’t make us right or wrong.

You will find that I do reference that I went to Dr. Aceves. I do this because he is the only doctor I have knowledge about, and I feel he is a marvelous Doctor who cares genuinely about his patients. He has years of experience and you will find that anyone who has gone to him, feels the very same why I do.

So let step up and help the new people out there. How about being accountable and offering our expertise that we have developed on our weight loss journey? Some of us have accomplished our weight loss, and we have a lot we can share. I want everyone to be successful, healthy and ecstatic with their choice.

NEVER ever give up on yourself. Having Weight Loss Surgery was the very FINEST thing I have ever done for myself. You can and will be successful too! DO not give another day of your life away being overweight, fat, hefty, chubby, heavy, pudgy, stout, plump and obese. There are so many words I can say for fat, but we know all of them. How about you are unhealthy! It is your time to start living.

Hugs,

let step up and help the new people out there. offering our expertise that we have developed on our weight loss journey?

Newbies et al

Suzanne is a lovely lady from sleeveland that lost 115 lbs!!! in 2008!!!! :)

proving that there is life after many years of WLS!!!!

what an inspiration she is!!!

periodically she"pops in", showing her lovely slim self :)

always smiling :)

she's a great role model!!!!

she was 62 when she was sleeved (I know she doesn't mind me saying her age)

i only mention her age to show "older" people (like me :( :) )I was 57 when i had WLS - that its never too late to start your new healthier, happier, longer life :)

people that have been sleeved a few weeks, months - we've all heard the same question comments from NEWBIES

they are repetitious - telling their poop stories LOL - hair following out - Protein shake problems, STALLS et al

they are good questions, we've said, asked them before - so now its the NEWBIES turn to ask them, since they never heard the answers

most of us can remember asking those questions when we were NEWBIES too

i know if 15 months ago i was referenced to use the search bar on hair, it wouldn't be the same as someone giving personal help on the board

(its true that after someone gives a response checking the search area is helpful)

so NEWBIES.............

here we are - ask away!!!!

any and all questions - go for it!!!!

just remember, another NEWBIE might just have asked that question ie yesterday, so you might not always get that personal response

i would like to also tell you NEWBIES when you introduce yourself - there are so many of you NEWBIES we don't get to individually welcome you

just know even though we don't address each and everyone of you

we all welcome you to the VSG board with arms open - on your successful road to "heaven" :) in sleeveland!!!!

Suzanne, thanx for reminding us that all of us are here requesting support

even when NEWBIES confess they ate something bad,,,,,,,

we need to be there for them - but we also need to tell them to knock it off!!! if they do something wrong!/silly like eating 4 slices of pizza PO day 4!!!!

not a good idea guys!!!!

so newbies try not to be offended if someone "unintentionally" might not show their best side :( with a reply

we're all usually the cream of the crop, here to help you the best we can

but remember we'll answer your questions to the best of our capability

but frequently you need/should check with your NUT/surgeon if its a more serious question about a possible leak, stricture et al

for many things you must seek your doc/Nuts advice

Suzanne, sounds like you are continueing to do great!!!!

thanx for stopping by!!! - would love to see you more often :)

welcome NEWBIES

Hey Kathy,

Thanks for all the nice words. And heck NO I don't mind you saying my age at all. I am proud to be the age I am. This surgery has changed my entire life. Yes I have lost this weight and kept it off. Best of all I am walking every day. Yes, I walk 7 days a week. In about a week, I will have walked for 9 months, and NEVER missed a day of walking. Yes, I walk in the rain. I won't melt, and it feels good to walk every day!

We are ALL out here to help and support you. There are NEVER any wrong questions to ask. Start asking some of us for help or send us your questions. We are here to be honest, cheer you on and support you in any way we can.

Hugs to you Kathy and thanks for all the nice words about me.

Suzanne

Hi,

It is hard to know who to talk to. I was very lucky that I had two ladies who really helped when I was starting this journey. If you have any questions please feel free to send me an E-mail to Suzannesh@aol.com. If you send me a note I will also be happy to send you my phone number if you want to talk. You are doing all the right and correct things. I wish you great success. I am always here to help you in any way I can.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
