Are Complication Posts Being Deleted

<cut and pasted from a different thread>

I'm more passionate because I'm a midwife. Delivering babies is a lot of responsibility and there is always a chance of something going wrong fast that isn't caused by something you did. I've had hemorrhages, shoulder dystocias and other life threatening complications. Thankfully I'm still new and had a more experienced midwife with me but I handled it well and all was well.

A local midwife that has delivered over 5,000 babies and is extremely well respected and has been teaching other midwives for years lost a baby a few months back. This obviously tore her apart. Other midwives and their support staff are much more supportive than Mexican bariatric surgery staff and coordinators lemme tell you.

I so far have a 0% long term complication rate and a 0% death rate. It's because I've only been doing this for 2 1/2 years. The likelihood of me having a severe complication or death regardless of doing everything right when I get to 5-7k babies is really high. I truly feel for all these surgeons, especially the one(s) drug through the mud for operating on THE most at risk population (obese, morbidly obese). That's where my strong feelings in my posts come from.

I'm a Christian person and believe God works through the hands of surgeons. I believe I was led to Dr Kelly, but I was there 4 days and met him a few times per day. I appreciate him and all his wife did very much, but it's not enough to be my hero just a talented person I'm very glad came into my life.

And YES, if anyone was wondering posts about Drs that are obviously great Drs repeatedly saying how awful they were would make me every bit as mad.

Proverbs 19:5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape.

I am so glad to read your post. I am having surgery with Dr. Kelly on May 13 and the rumours I have read on here made me very nervous. All the research I did on him was very impressive. Glad your experience was positive. You have reassured me. Thanks!

Check out MeasureOfMe's post about her experience with Dr. Kelly. She has a way with words and was very open and honest about her experience. I will see if I can find it...

I edited this post to make it clear I don't know the reasons behind anything and to take out language that makes Dr. Kelly seem worst than he is. He might be an awesome doctor, I don't know, I'm not in Mexico, I just can't recommend him.

As a Christian, I respect your experience and I take nothing away from you, but you're coming to me with "yes, but he was good with me", that proves nothing. If he harmed 10% of his patients, that would leave 90% saying how wonderful he was. Does that help the 10% were harmed? No. Will that help the other 10% that may be harmed? No.

You say people are spreading lies about this doctor but what have you done to check their stories? I went to the Dr. Kelly thread because I was looking for a doctor. I checked the information they told me to check. I checked his license and I couldn't find it. I found everyone elses but not his. I have no idea why so I'm not saying anything about that. I used Google translate to understand the Mexican websites. I checked the hospitals. He no longer has privileges there. I don't know why so I can't say anything about that either. For me, it was suspicious so I decided to go elsewhere. I also, since I was interested, read the stories of people, on this board, that had spoken to him and claimed they caught him in lies. These were people who had already signed up with him so what reason do they have to lie? The gastric sleeve surgery is about as low risk as you can get. There are other surgeons that have done this procedure longer and they haven't lost anyone.

If you have a completely healthy mother who is obviously in distress, and you do nothing, and that child dies, or the mother dies, it is not because you had more deliveries. It's because you were negligent. I'm not in Mexico. You're not in Mexico. So it would be wise to trust the medical profession that is in Mexico. And they seem to be cutting ties with Dr. Kelly.

No one has to prove anything to you. If you want to know, do your research. Read the Dr. Kelly thread with an open mind. Stop focusing on your own experience and admit that others may not have that same experience. Do the research I did. Then you'll know the truth.

If God lead you to Dr. Kelly, great. God told me to run from him and I did. Your calling wasn't my calling. As far as me and mine, I don't trust Dr. Kelly, I'm not using Dr. Kelly, and I'm not referring anyone to Dr. Kelly. You, on the other hand, can do whatever your spirit is leading you to do.

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding. For its profit is better than the profit of silver, and its gain than fine gold. She is more precious than jewels; and nothing you desire compares with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who hold her fast. I just searched for posts by Kat1 about the complications she suffered with Dr. Garcia and I couldn't find her complication posts anywhere. I found ones before and after her complications but none about her complications. Then I remembered reading that another poster that said posts about her complications had been removed.

Did VSG do a site overall? Are posts deleted after a certain time period? Anyone know if anything strange happened?

No, no and no.

There have been absolutely no posts deleted or removed from VST about any surgeon complications.

Kat1 had numerous accounts (Kat010, Kat2, Katrob etc etc) on VST. She requested that we merge them and it's possible some of her posts are no longer accessible via searching for her username or via other methods.

It is definitely not our policy to remove posts. We encourage members to post their personal experiences, whether they be positive or negative. Our goal here is to make sure our members have as much information as possible available to them to make informed decisions.

Cerenatee, that post you referred to was from 2010, and was regarding a very specific issue that occurred during a time period in which, as Alex stated in that thread, their were paid posters and coordinators coming to our site specifically to discredit other doctors. Alex did what he had to do to protect WLS Boards and it's members, which was to delete incorrect, inflammatory posts that were not from patient's personal experiences, but were instead from potentially paid posters.

There was recently a thread about a "certain" Dr being on drugs without a bit of proof that was not removed.

Thanks Alex.

I admit I was wrong, I was wrong, I was wrong.

I'll modify my posts to reflect that.

I'll message you. I don't want this to seem like my doctor is better than anyone else's. I didn't spend months researching doctors. I only did preliminary research on their licenses, surgical training, residencies, training in the bariatric field, medical association memberships, connections with US surgical profession, reported complications on youtube, VST, GS, and OH, etc. If that information wasn't easily accessible, I crossed them off the list right away so there could be plenty of great doctors I eliminated. I'm sure if I had emailed the doctor most of them would have sent me the information I wanted.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
