this may be a silly question.. but about tattoos before surgery. and NOT how they will look afterwards.

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone may know if getting a tattoo a few weeks before surgery would affect any of the testing or anything? I'm clueless when it comes to medical testing or what they're going to be looking for in blood work a week from tomorrow. By that point I will have had my newest tattoo for 2 weeks and a few days.

I really hope not, but it's a little late now. I had originally planned not to get anymore before my surgery, but after my grandpa passed away on the 11th, that was my way of helping myself to come, a memorial for him that I'll have forever.

So if anyone knows or had recently gotten a tattoo before surgery, any thoughts/experiences are greatly appreciated!

I would ask your doctor. I know that I had to wait 12 months before I could donate blood, but that may be completely different.

I doubt that would cause any issues. You'll probably have a CBC and CMP done. They'll mainly be paying attention to your RBC and WBC. You could always call your doctor and ask.

Yeah, all I know is for donating blood you have to wait a year. I would call my doc.

Ask your Dr of course, but you should be fine. I was actually in the tattoo shop 5 days before surgery. I was just about to sit in the chair when it dawned on me how soon the surgery would be. I asked the tattoo guy and we decided to wait in fear of them refusing to operate because the tattoo would still be new and healing. So I got it 3 weeks post op.

I would think a couple weeks would be plenty of healing time but check with the Drs office anyway. It would suck to have to reschedule you sleeve!

As a medical professional I can tell you there's no problem with getting a tattoo, won't be a problem regarding your surgery at all EXCEPT if it gets infected, that could be a problem if you needed antibiotics.

Thank you everyone! It's almost healed now, no issues or anything. I appreciate all of your input :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
