I'm trying to decide what to wear and pack for hospital and what I need to buy for first few weeks post op. I'm not a sweatpants person so all I have are suits and jeans. Should I get yoga pants, drawstring no drawstring elastic???? I love to shop and I will go out of control if left to my own ideas.

Large comfortable yoga pants no drawsting would be good, I also wore a long zip up cardigan type sweater to the hospital with just a comfortable cami bra underneath.. While walking in the hospital the long sweater was used over my hospital gown as not to flash the world and I also put my cami bra back on

I then wore the same outfit home.

I went to walmart and bought three pairs of clearance sweats for three dollars a pop. DONE.. saving my money for non-walmart shopping spree AFTER I lose the weight.

If you wouldn't be caught dead in sweats, then yeah, yoga pants would be good.. especially if you'll wear them for working out post op. They have the danskin ones at walmart that are pretty good.. they have a nice fold down top. no drawstring. Personally, I just wear the sweats when I'm exercising.... but we all have different standards and apparently mine are pretty low.

Don't worry too much about how they fit around your belly or getting ones that are super loose.. the operation happens in the area from the belly button up.. The bottom part of my abdomen didn't feel any kind of pain or even discomfort.

Also at the hospital, I just wore the hospital gown.. I figure, I'd rather ooze and bleed over that ugly gown instead of my super fancy $3.00 walmart sweats.

I wore the same thing home. Yoga pants comfy T-shirt. I'm 5 weeks out and still wear stretchy pants ie yoga workout pants. My jeans bug my belly button incision still when I sit down. Just be comfy.

Yoga pants are good just be sure they are plenty loose. Elastic in the waist bothered me a lot until the swelling went down. Be comfortable:)

Yoga pants are a must. I prefer anything with a drawl string so I can wear them longer.

Anything loose is great! I didn't bother with clothes for the hospital stay. I was just glad that I had a gown that wrapped all the way around and overlapped some so there was no worries about flashing anyone.

I went in my jeans and hoody and came home in the same jeans and hoody. Had jammie pants for in hospital, but I used their gowns because there is always seepage with drains.

I wore sort of stretchy pants and a sweater to the hospital and planned on wearing them home, but I was pretty uncomfortable and ended up wearing the sweater and a Wal-Mart tuxedo home (pajama pants). I was covered up by my winter coat and we went straight home, but I still sort of can't believe that I actually did that. I'm sticking with my theory that the pain meds made me do it.

Thanks! I'm hitting up Walmart and will get the yoga pants. I think id like to workout in yoga pants. plus they are really comfy. I've tried working out in sweats but they slide up my leg and are not comfortable to me. Something about the elastic.

I did the same thing. I wore a t-shirt and elastic waist pants to the hospital and wore the same thing home. In the hospital I wore the hospital gown and when I walked the halls I wore another gown backwards so my backend was covered! I'll wear pajama pants in my house, but not in public, however I only have 2 pairs of yoga pants so I had to wash one pair every night so I could alternate them! I should've probably planned that a little better! I'm 4 weeks out and finally wore jeans for the first time yesterday!

I tried to follow the advice from all the different forums on buying clothes. But none of it worked for me - the goodwill trips were tiresome and annoying - just really couldn't find the clothes I wanted to wear to show off my new weight loss. As a teacher I'd started losing weight before the summer so I could get the surgery then it was delayed until two weeks before the new year. I'd lost 55 pounds total by the first day of school and looked drastically different - and I wanted a new style to go with the new look. Instead of black, blue, or grey dress pants with a colorful shirt I wanted skirts and dresses , outfits I haven't worn in 20 years. So my solution; frequent trips to Ross and Burlington and Marshalls especially to the clearance racks and I bought one dress after another. Then trips to Target to get discontinued tights in different weights. Don't just continue being the old you as you lose weight - become the new person stuck inside all that fat.

Don't over pack for the hospital! You change as soon as you get there so wear home what you wear to the hospital. Tooth brush and tooth paste already provided for me and in my room. The hospital that I was at also provided me with socks to go with hospital gown so I didn't need slippers.

I stayed one night I showered once I got home the next day. I did freshen up with soap and wash clothes provided.

So all I really needed was chap stick, brush, hair band, cell phone and charger.

I wore leggings and a tunic to and from the hospital. I also wore leggings for the first 2 weeks I was home before returning to work.

As for the hospital I brought one of my own night gowns and wore that after I was taken off my IV on day 2. I was just more comfortable in my own clothing. I did the same thing after I had my kids as well, wore my own night gown.

I guess it is different for everyone but I only stayed in the hospital 1 night and I was sleeved, gall bladder removed and hernia repair. I stayed in hospital gown until I was released because my iv came out literally about an hour before I went home. My dr told me rule of thumb for staying extra night is- when the nurses are doing something for you that you can't do yourself you need stay otherwise time to check out.

I have a Lularoe Carly dress with comfy leggings that I wore to the hospital and a long sweater, and then discharged in the same outfit, since I didn't wear it very long. While in the hospital I was in a hospital gown the two days I was there (one night). I didn't even take a bra because I didn't want it rubbing my incisions trying to put it on and off. As a matter a fact, I didn't wear a bra the entire week I was home. I just wore my Carly's, which look like little dresses/night gowns, and are so comfy. Putting a bra back on for the first time to go back to work I had to be very careful not to rub the incisions. I only took a week off, and did fine going back to work. Best of luck to you!
