BIG FAT PEOPLE!

Well, I guess we are all addicted to food in that we need it to live.

But, no,in the sense that the word addict is being used in this thread, I don't think I was or am a food addict. Go ahead, sigh, roll your eyes, whatever, it won't hurt my feelings.

I was not always heavy. I got heavy because my relationship with my husband, when it began 20-some years ago in my mid-30's, centered around both of us loving to cook. I picked up some weight from eating rich foods, and too many or too large servings. I never obsessed about food. I never gorged myself. I just ate too many sweets and rich foods because I liked them, and they were there because I enjoyed making them. A few pounds each year for 20-some years added up.

The frustration with diets not working or working so slowly that I would just give up, that's what led me to WLS. I needed the extra help. I knew if all I could lose was half pound to a pound per month on WW or whatever other diet I tried, that I would never stick to it long enough to get to goal. And the WLS gave me the extra help I needed.

I often wonder if I knew then what I know now about heavy on the Protein, low on the carbs, if I could have done this without WLS. I doubt it, because the restriction is so important to me, both the volume restriction and the "too rich" restriction. I still love rich foods, but they don't sit well. I still love to cook, I just eat a little because that's all that I can hold.

I'm happy, no matter what name you put on it!

I didn't think I was a food addict but now I think I was because I catch myself looking in the frig even know iam not hungry .. I have some demons from my past and I think I substituted the drugs with food.

Curious if anyone's gone to OA?

I know it's supposed to be anonymous..... But curious? :)

I went to OA once in 2008 and it was very dogmatic in structure. Not for me. There was hardly any support and it felt very uncomfortable. It was mostly reading from a script and reading from the OA bible. Most ineffective hour I have ever spent. Maybe AA is better then my experience with OA or maybe my experience was isolated. WW was far better at supporting overeating issues in their support meetings in my opinion.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
