I had my psych eval today and the Dr. said he would not approve me until I prove to him that I can lose weight. He wants me to send him weight loss logs and food logs every week for the next month. He said he would approve me then?!? He said everything else was great except as far as my mental wellness goes...

Anyone ever hear of this? He is a Psychiatrist, not a Nutritionalist. To make matters worse he is going to send my Dr. a report letting her know that he is going to see me for another month. So I don't even think I can go to another Dr. without it looking odd.

it's insurance that needs the eval not the surgeon, at least in my case. I would see another shrink because this guy seems to be looking to make a quick buck off you.

He said he wouldn't charge for the next visit. He was one of the Doctors recommended to me by the surgeons office.

Wow!!! I asked because a lot of the surgeons have psychologists and the Nuts that they normally use and things "go smoothly" because, well.... they like their "bread and butter" relationships...

I would put a call into the surgeons office then. And poke around as to why they think this guy is asking this.

I had to put off having surgery in August 2012 to December 2012 because the psychiatrist wouldn't approve me until I had further therapy sessions. I was really upset at the time but now I am glad I did. I am still seeing my fantastic therapist once a month- let's face it, I wasn't morbidly obese because I was the picture of mental health. Just my experience. I hope all goes well for you once you are approved!

That sounds ludicrous to me. The only reason the insurance requires psych is to make she that you can make the changes needed and fully understand the impact before they shell out the cash. All they are doing is making sure they will get return on the investment.

As a psychiatrist, I would say that it sounds like the dr is doing exactly their job. For whatever reason (remember, we weren't in the room, we don't know what was said), the doctor has concerns about the patient's ability to comply with the diet. Rather than saying no, they offered to gather more information before making a final decision.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
