Eucharist (catholic) -Post Op

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any problems with taking the Eucharist after being sleeved? I'm thinking that the tiny amount of wine won't hurt but I was just curious to see if anyone else had any issues? And yes I'm specifically wondering about wine not grape juice. =) I'm being sleeved on 4/26 so next communion after being in the hospital would be 5/5 (9 days post op).

Thanks.

I'm completely there with you. I did not go to communion until I was off the liquid phase of the post-op diet. After that, I did would take the host, but avoided the wine until my diet plan said it was OK, I think that was 45 days post-op. My concern was mainly for the heartburn it may cause because wine would cause me heartburn pre-op if I wasn't careful. Haven't had any problems so far :D

I felt the same way... I got home from the hospital on Wednesday and went to church Sunday and totally didn't realize I couldn't receive so I skipped it the first week and felt so strange cuz I stayed in the pew while everyone walked around me... I think as long as you make sure u really chew it you should be fine... And I took the smallest sip of wine and I was fine...

Thank you. So many questions especially now that I'm 3 weeks out. All the small things keep popping in my head. =)

As long as you sip the wine afterwards to make it moist. And just chew chew chew. But at three weeks it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Just have a little bottle of Water in your purse just in case because sometimes it can be very dry. Good Luck!

Thanks for creating this topic. I'm Eastern Orthodox and our Eucharist is small pieces of leavened bread added to a chalice with wine and warm Water, so everything is quite moist. I'm hoping it shouldn't create any problems, especially since my priest knows about my surgery and will probably give me a tiny portion anyway.

I experienced this for the first time at mass this week. I didn't take the wine because I was afraid the alcohol would burn. I took the wafer and chewed it to a paste before swallowing. I didn't have an issue. I am still in week 1 post-op.

Very glad to have found this topic! I'm about 9 days pre-op and I plan to ask my surgeon about this when I see him next week. The hosts at my parish are a decent size and I struggle to break them down without wine, so this is going to be rough for me.

I am not Catholic, but I have taken communion ever since my first week back at Church. I have not had any problems - and my surgeon said it was fine.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
