For what it is worth, I would recommend going to the support group even if you are the only guy. I think my Saturday support group there are 2-3 guys and the rest women. Ok with me. I enjoy getting their perspective. We are on the same journey even though the room is filled with banders, sleevers and RNYers. There is a lot of good information shared by other WLS folks and, in my case, by the NUT and guest speakers. Sometimes to make a friend in this group setting dominated by women you have to be a friend. Take the first step...

Tell me about it........I think they were more there for the social gathering rather than any gastric surgery support. Every now and then one would walk up to me cautiously, like I was an alien and ask me if I was alright.......as if I was lost or something........I won't be going back either.

I know right? It's weird, some of them acted like I was not supposed to be there. Or they would huddle around a table and I sat by myself. It was really just weird. I tried to start a conversation, and they were friendly enough, but they seemed to only want to talk about anything but the surgery or wl or the reason that we were there. I pulled out my phone and started reading emails etc. Until it was time to go.

Reading this thread was hilarious! You all made my morning!!!! VST and Support Groups do seem to be ran by the women....although having a lot of women around is NEVER a bad thing....LOL.....When you think about it.....it may be because a lot of times men don't want to admit that they need support....eh hem....of course not us men on VST though. =) LOL

As a woman, I AGREE about the support groups! The ones I attended were crazy and useless. This lady was whining because her cat wanted a treat, and why should the cat have a treat and not her. Are you kidding me?

Did she end up eating the cat? Or the cat treats?

In every aspect of every mans life, the more women around the merrier.

Support groups...ah support groups. I understand people have complications and issues, but I've never been one to sit down and listen to them and not be able to speak my mind. I was a peer mediator and later on a school counselor and I figured I'd get booted from that position real quick, but instead everyone wanted to come to me because they always got it straight, no BS instead of someone just saying "I see, how does that make you feel?" (sadface) I do want to at least give one a shot, and I'm positive I will soon, just trying to prepare myself mentally, and prepare my tongue for the teeth marks I may leave.

My doctor's support group is 95 percent woman, and a lot of the time I am the only

guy. While at first I found this intimidating it has been an extremely positive experience. It has changed me for the better, I have learned to talk about things I never thought I could, or even things I didn't understand or have awareness of.

I spent my first 50 years not talking to anybody about anything and that got me to 511 pounds.

The doctor worked on the physical part, the head and heart need similar work.

I didn't get to 511 lbs. buy just physical things (like I like the taste potato chips)

My whole life needs surgery not just my stomach.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
