Cheated on pre-op diet and freaked out!

Recommended Posts

My sleeve surgery is scheduled for April 3...I'm freaked out because I only lost a few pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet. I've been drinking Isagenix Protein Shakes off and on for a few months as a weight loss attempt prior to deciding to have surgery. My BMI is 36 so I'm on the lower end of qualifying for surgery...the bariatric coordinator freaked when that's all the weight I lost but I had broth from a Japanese restaurant last night that was very salty and I gained 3 lbs in one day just from that! My hands were swollen this morning so I know that I'm retaining Water now...anyone know the details about a fatty liver? I'm hoping that since I followed the diet pretty well except the past couple days that I've shrunk it down enough....not to mention that ive been drinking the shakes off and on for a while. wonder if since my BMI is on the "low end" Ill be ok? I will die of he opens me up and can't do the surgery because my liver is too large!!! Anyone have any thoughts? Oh no!!

Well some surgeons will delay surgery if your liver is too big.

I know that's what I'm afraid of? I can't understand why some Drs don't require the two week pre-op diet if its so important to shrink your liver?!?! I'm hoping that the next two days of doing liquids only and following the diet properly will fix anything I may have messed up the past few days of cheating!!! :( I feel so ashamed!

My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet, just 1 day of Clear Liquids and a bowel prep before surgery. He examines you at your pre-op visit and shows you where your incisions will be, but the PA told me he is really palpating your liver and checking abdominal fat, etc., to see if you need a liquid diet prior to surgery. Most patients do not need to do it. I didn't, and I have a much higher BMI than you do. Hopefully you can still take some weight off on your pre-op diet. It gives you a nice head start and helps you feel better when you hit a stall after surgery. Make sure you are drinking more Water than you ever though you could--over 100 oz if you can.

The amount of time for diet depends on the size of your liver. That diet is for your safety and makes it easier on the surgeon.

Why should you care what the doc. said you must know more than they do if you did not follow their instructions to the t. good luck with the surgery. If some people do not need the pre-op diet than it does not matter if you follow the docs advise or not does it?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
