Recommended Posts

NM~Welcome aboard! The gals pretty much got it. The weather here is soooo unpredictable.

inez~Congrats, I am sooo happy to hear that things are back on track! Keep us posted on your success!!

Justplainme~are you having your surgery tomorrow? I'll be thinking about ya', you are in good hands!!! come back and let us know how things went!

want~congrats on your date! excercise??? I have always been sort of active (obviously not enough)...LOL, I do belong to a gym and I am trying to get my bottom there, I haven't been in like a week or has it been two??? I did the same thing before surgery, I thought that I wasn't going to be able to eat ever again!!! Funny! I can eat anything, just not as much as before. My band lets me eat steak, breads, pastas, I have no problems yet...(keeping my fingers crossed)

Lap~Let us know when you decide to come. I aggree with Dynamo about the leaves. I am planning a trip to the mountians the end of September, I am hoping to see the leaves changing then...never know for sure??? Your pics look fabulous, I think I already told you, but I'll tell ya again!!!

Dynamo~yes, I am back in the world of living. Life must go on...you and Woofay look great in the Breck pics!!! How's that fill???

Hi Woofay!

Lap Dancer.... Generally the last two weeks of September in Colorado, the Aspen Trees and Scrub Oak are at their peak of color.. After that it is too cold in the high country and the leaves have pretty much fallen off of the trees...

Mal - glad you are up and at 'em

Everyone - I'm having a good day. Worked out with my trainer and had therapy all good stuff. But I have the weirdest thing. I have a rash, that started on my thigh, goes to the other thigh, then wherever my body rubs against fabric, the bra line and upper thighs, specifically. I had this rash last year on Slim 4 Life and I thought I was allergic to the herbs they had me taking. I am not taking or ingesting anything out of the ordinary. Last year I went to my PCP, he sent me to the dermatologist, who couldn't figure it out. She tried all sorts of meds and creams, eventually it cleared up; like it had run it's course. It was almost the same weight loss point when the rash occurred last year. Weird! So of course, it is wonderful stimulation for therapeutic analysis, but I am so uncomfortable in my skin. I have something homeopathic from my acupuncturist, but nothing really seems to clear it up other than time. I am trying so hard not to scratch. Scratching brings the rash out more and the itch then becomes painful. Has anyone else had something like this???????

Otherwise, things are good.

Michelle

hello

ok, am I the only one going through a "funk" before surgery? I was reading posts on the "other" lap band forum...and, good grief, it seemed like most of what I read were problems people were having...nothing to get me excited about. A very different tone than here...some people were reverting to their old ways, were having big problems with no Water before, after, or during eating (I am a HUGE water drinker all the time, even take a water bottle into Wal Mart when I shop), blah, blah....

made me scared of my potential determined success.

Ok girls, lend me an ear, please don't think I am a whiner, I am a strong woman, but have had so MUCH failure at weight loss, I don't want to screw this up! You are all so positive and I need encouragement. I suspect that once the surgery is done, my fear of myself will turn to excitement!:help:

want2bemeagain... I think I read on another thread that you were from the Grand Junction area and I just wanted to say Howdy Neighbor, cause I'm from Junction too...

When is your surgery scheduled?

ok, maybe I should read closer! duh...my surgery is Sept 11th, and it looks like you are following a month later! Have you already done your phone consult with the doc? Mine is this Friday, and I have been compiling some questions I have for him. I really am excited, but so scared..stupid, I know. I have never had trouble with surgery in the past, so the surgery shouldn't be a problem. I need to go and join a new gym here, and really get my ducks in a row..It will be here before I know it! I wish I knew someone going in the same day, would be good to encourage eachother!

Want2beme no worries. Know that everyone is different. Sometimes when groups of people who have a negative spirit and outlook on things

get together, it can be a gripe fest. Being a water drinker is to your advantage. Stick with what our doctor tells you to do. He is just the best and I am a very picky person when it comes to medical care. ( I flew from Florida to Colorado to have my band done by him ) Again...no worries.

My girls, I spoke to Dr. Kirshenbaum yesterday. As an aside I also spoke to Marilyn...love her spirit she is such a sweetheart. I am having gastric problems big time. Not with the band, not in the upper but it appears I am not absorbing the fat from my food and I'm having a constant case of UY&^%$## something Dr. K called that I cannot name. I need to see him so probability is I will be out to Denver in the first part of October. I am checking my schedule at work...otherwise I would be going next week but I can't take the time off right now. Food is zipping through me and I'm painfully on the pot all the time. My stomach is swelling. I read the symptoms and I have every symptom of colon cancer BUT I had a colonoscopy 9 mos. ago and everything was clear.

I'm now on Metamusel (sp?) intaking more vegetable carbs (corn, potatoes) hoping this change in diet and additional intake will stop the flow. I'm up 4 pounds as of this morning and that is no doubt the swelling (and SALT from yesterday...whoa way too much). I have a muffin top.

I'm looking for a block of four days to come into town. I see my sister tomorrow and she is the flight attendant who gets me my freebies. Going to pick a day, call Marilyn and see if I can get in.

I am leaning towards the last week of September. In case something is wrong and he needs me to come back out for another check, I will do so in October when I have a professional day available at work.

**I am hoping to see my posse at Red Robin**

I will let you all know for sure.

Keep me in your thoughts friends.

Lap Dancer~ I'm sorry to hear about your problem. That would be a really annoying problem while trying to work. I hope it gets better for you. On the other hand, it will be really great to see {less of} you! Let us know when everything is final and I'll get it on the calendar!

Want2bmeagain~ Never fear! ;) I've had a few of the complications associated with the band, and truly, for me, they weren't that bad. Not so bad that I wouldn't want the band. And remember, people tend to seek assistance when they are having problems and would explain that a lot of the people on the forums are having issues they are seeking answers for. I think the side effects of being on a regular diet are worse than this. (I hate diets! I've done so many of them) So be reassured that the lifestyle change you are choosing to make will benefit you for the rest of your life. And (in my opinion) you are picking one of the best surgeons to get you there. You are in a win/win situation! The being scared thing is so natural. Have you had a chance to see some of my old posts right before I had it done? Oh my, what a basket case I was. This thread got me through it. You'll get through it too. Just let us know when and if you need the extra support. We're pretty good at it! You won't fail with this. None of us will. We have the rest of our lives to get it down and learn it well. You were also talking about how you were eating everything you could before your surgery. That's common too. But you really don't need to. You can eat most things after your surgery, just less of it. I went on my "last meal crusade" right before my first fill. I made sure I gained 5lbs before my first fill! Silly me! So hang in there and stay away from the negative forums and threads. It will be great!:clap2:

Mal~ Good morning! Did ya make it to the gym? Did ya exercise enough for me too? :biggrin1: Lordy I gotta get to a gym!

Dynamo~ Hurray for your good day! There will be more and more of them. Sorry about the rash. You know, it's the hot time of the year (both times) and sometimes extra soap can come out of your clothes from moisture when its sweaty and humid out. Like prickly heat with the added chemicals. Maybe try an extra rinse cycle on your washer? My family comes from the land of sensative skin, and my kids are worse than I am. Hope it clears up soon for you.

I can't remember who mentioned it, but my re-do surgery is on the 10th. Isn't someones band placement that day? Or am I off a day? My pre-op is the 6th. Anyone going to be in the office that day? Just love meeting people from here. I realized I met someone after the fact last time. ("oh, that was you" things)

Have a great day, All! Hopefully cooler today so the mean bitchy woman doesn't come out today. (me in the heat!) HA! :):biggrin1::):biggrin1:

thank you, Lap Dancer, for your encouragement!

But, wow...your situation..did you have the colonoscopy as a screening, or did you have some kind of symptoms of something? Assuming it's not cancer (which we won't even consider!), what else could it be? Could you get to Dr. K sooner? gosh, how miserable to go through that daily. I hope he can see you even sooner ...I hope to hear from you soon. Hang in there, we are cheering!

Anita what were your symptoms with the leak? Did you have any swelling around the surgical area?

Want2bmeagain~ I'm local here in the Springs, so I'll be coming home.

Lap Dancer~ the only symptoms I've had is the fill going away. Like after surgery when we started getting hungrier and hungrier. Two days ago my fill was perfect. Wonder how much was in there? hee hee.

I really hope nothing major is wrong. What did Dr. K want to do? Run some tests or see the placement of your band? I'll be praying for you!

Want2bemeagain- boy can I identify with you. I am one week post op and doing so well, however, even when I was at the clinic for my band I ask if it was too late to go home. I am so thankful I didn't. I found alot of good support in the monthly group for Aug. I bet one has started for Sept and lotz of people will be having the same feelings you are having. Sometimes it is like you wrote it yourself, or they were reading your mind. Good Luck, you will love Dr. K. I have my post op appointment tomorrow Aug 23 at 9am.;)

Lap~I'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. How are you doing it? What does the good Dr. say could be the cause of this? Please keep us updated on what is happening. How about Amodium or something like that??

Hi Woofay~I did NOT make it to the gym...I was thinking about how I am going to have to fess up online that I have yet missed another day (shame, shame). Once agin my son Chris and I have made plans to hit the gym after school/work....we'll see what happens...

Dynamo~how's the rash? That is quite bizzare...wonder what it could be?? I hope it goes a way soon.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
