Tied2bfit~Don't worry! It's all Fluid and that comes and goes on a whim! Oh, I wanted to ask you, is dependent edema the same as pitting edema? This pre-op diet is not to lose weight, but to shrink your liver. Weight loss just happens to be a happy side effect. Oh, also, sorry your turkey dinner sucked. Sad when your looking forward to at least the turkey part (cuz the rest is pretty much not okay pre-op) and even that was crappy.:( I was sad for you! I'll save you some of my turkey. (hummmm, what color would it be by the time you can eat it/I see you? Heehee!;))

Dynamo~ Ya for a good day!:clap2: Even eggs are being a bugger for me today...so I had some chocolate....crap! Must stay away from the chocolate!

Shelbicallie~ Hurray for your second fill. Let us know how it does for you. The next few days should dial ya in! Those first few meals after a fill can be scary!

Hi Gurlygirl! Good to see ya on!

Hi Everyone,

I did it. I spent a day on a good eating plan, no extras. I haven't really stayed the course for a long time. I am excited and pleased with myself.

Dee - I am sure Dr. K will see your ankles and know right away. Glad you have done so well getting ready.

Woofay - I don't want to see the green turkey you'll be serving Dee.

Well - tomorrow is another day.

Good night all.

Hello Friends!

Hugs to you all. I have to jump in the shower in a sec it is 2:30 your time in Colorado...smiles...but I'm on eastern time and up for work.

Reading all your posts sending out encouragement and good thoughts to all of you for this journey, and for the support you extend to eachother.

Natalee at the OR, how cool is that! She is one of those individuals that you could sit and have coffee with and open up yourself to, talking for hours. Definately someone I would love to have there.

Michelle good luck on the visit. Hope you get the adjustment that puts you in the zone. I loved that article.

Swelling. I too get pitting edema and take Lasix. I replenish with loads of Water each day all day. Salt is something that hides in foods we least suspect but my body will show it the next day.

I've seen the Big Medicine show and the edema that occurs. I think that I was not too far away from being incapacitated like that. My heart goes out to those who struggle with that food noose. I am grateful beyond words each day for this band.

I had a sweet tooth. Here's the difference between then and now. I could have taken out four donuts and a large double double THEN, now it's a small coffee with milk and an order of donut holes. Big Ed, my dog, loves donut holes. I get three or four, Ed gets the rest.

If you haven't read the article I posted above on restriction, read it. Being at the best place in restriction makes such a difference.

All of you have a grand day! ...and I'm still going to be a grandma, daughter went to the doctor yesterday and had it confirmed. Next is the OBGYN on Thursday. Woo Hoo..here we go.

Dee -- If I had been there I would have given you a big hug! But I had my fill here in NC. Tears of joy are a beautiful thing -- this is a very exciting and life-changing experience and you are right in the middle of it. Have Natalee to remind Dr. K to take a photo of your band while he's in there. He made one of mine for me -- I had always planned to post it here, but of course, haven't done that yet! I can't wait to hear your surgery story. Just think -- next year this time, you'll have turkey with no edema! 2008 is going to be such an awesome, healthy year!

All these new babies coming into the lives of the people on this thread; things happen for a reason -- getting banded, getting healthy, getting ready to keep up with a little one!! A new life for two~ so to speak.

Happy Tuesday! A new day for each of us ~~ let's make it the best. Thinking of you today.

Dynamo~Job well done, let's do it, one day at a time! I was driving home from the gyn the other day and for no reason at all just started balling! This is a sad time of the year for me too...lot's of heartache. My subconcious must have taken over because I wasn't even thinking about anything...I must have seen something or maybe a song on the radio...something triggered and I balled, then all the emotions just flooded. Now I have to repeat lots of positive thoughts to keep myself up. Working out really helps. I did it, I bumped up my workout. I did three miles cardio and added reps and even added an incline on the treadmill...here we go! We will meet our goals!!!

Tied2b~I am soooo happy for you that Natalie is going to be with you. That is wonderful. I know it makes you feel better. We all will be there with you too, just before you close your eyes, picture us there holding your hand, then go to your happy place with your cabana boy and a nice cool fancy drink!!!

Lap~A granndma! You are going to bo the most amazing Grandma. How's the Grandpa to be? and the Uncle to be? and the Great Grandma and Grandpa?? How exciting

Where is Mare? Hope your doing well!! toss us a post!

Shelbi~How cool, a picture of your Band?? You should soooo post it!!!

Have a Terrific Tuesday...GOALS, here we come!!!

Hi Everyone-

Mal - thanks for sharing that special moment of sorrow with us. I have been taught to always put on a happy face, a brave veneer, but inside I might be sad. It has taken me a long time to reconnect to my feelings. It is a sign of HEALTH that you can cry. Bravo!

And Bravo on the workout regime. Just don't hurt yourself. If you hurt then you won't continue. Make sure you have good shoes on. I have to replace my sneaks every three months or my knees hurt. Weird, expensive, but I am worth it.

I am committed to another day of good eating. Amazingly, I lost two pounds that I had gained recently. Oh my goodness, the push to drink lots of Water seemed to help too.

I'll report later. I am battling "stinkin thinkin" a phrase from OA that applies to me. Today is a great day.

Hugs all,

Michelle

Dee - I didn't really get nervous about the surgery, but was so "numb" in my thoughts that I am not sure what I felt. That is one of the results of the band for me, I am feeling my feelings and not "stuffing" them. I have a lot of years to undo the pattern of ignoring my gut, but guess what, I can do this and so can you.

I'll be careful with my workout. I TOTALLY agree about the shoes...Sooooo worth it. I LOVE Runner's Roost (Arapahoe and Parker). Great guy there, he knows his stuff. Great shoes, pricey but worth it!!!

I just got off the phone with Paula, she gave me my pre-op and post-op directions for eating. I am so excited I could just scream! 16 days left and I doubt if I will get a minutes rest until then. I am so excited I can't sleep. And when I do sleep, I keep having dreams of little Dutch girls in wooden shoes dancing around windmills twirling Lap-bands around their arms! :) You think I might need a psychological eval first????? Just kidding. But, I am really excited. December 13th at 12:30 P.M., come quickly please.

Mal - They were just on for $249 at 24hourfitness.com with the 3 months of service. I just put the 24 hour website on as my homepage to see when they went onsale. They are now back up to $349 but I would just keep watching they usually go onsale every week or so. I am getting mine on Thursday and I can't wait:whoo:.

Hey Gurly -- it's good to see you around! How have you been? Your first fill is this week, right?

Hi Shelbi - I pop on every so often and read to catch up on everyone's progress and lives. Lots of happy baby news these days.

You are correct. My first fill will be on Thursday with a local surgeon. I hope it will move the scale for me. I am tired of looking at the same 2-3 pounds jumping back and forth. :bounce:(this smiley should not be grinning LOL). It can get a little frustrating when you are doing all the right things and the body just doesn't want to let go of the weight. :D:angry

I will update you on how my first fill unfolds.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

Good luck Dee!! I will be thinking of you on Thursday!

:funscale:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
