Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Lap - I loved the Hanukkah greeting. Thank you. ;)

Mal - The computer virus thing isn't a joke. It comes from the kids downloading music on various free websites. No there wasn't a positive response for tonight, so we are just going to go with the 13th so VA Bandster can come too. Hope the weather will be good, I miss you guys. :clap2:

All the Newbies - :gluck:best wishes on surgeries accomplished and surgery dates that are coming up. Please join us at Red Robin ;):car: if you are local as soon as possible. It is wonderful to have a thriving support group.

So glad the medical community has decided that being in shape :heh: is more important than being at the perfect weight as you age. (On ABC's national news tonight)

Hugs all,

Michelle

Michelle,

Sorry about RR tonight! I had really wanted to go, I should have PM'd you sooner! I'll explain everything when I see you guys next Thursday!!!

Does anyone know what time Munchkin's surgery is tomorrow? Did she find a ride from the hospital back to the hotel? AND which site is she having her surgery? Parker or Aurora?

Poor girl she's here by herself!

Dee, Good to see you posting -- I've been thinking of you! I don't know if Munchkin ever mentioned which surgery center. I hope she's doing ok and will post soon. I've got a strong feeling that she'll deal with just about anything that comes her way without too much problem -- She's an ICU nurse/paramedic, with a cast, her first surgery was cancelled, her flight was cancelled, she's guttsy enough to come to CO alone and with a smile -- I mean, day-um!, I'd say she's one strong-willed, self-reliant woman!!!! She rocks!!

Thanks Shelbi,

I know Munchkin is an adult and she's perfectly capable, but the "Mommy" in me is worried about her. She's going to have some trouble with the surgicenter if they find out that she's taking a taxi back to the hotel. They made me sign a form saying that someone was picking me up and would be caring for me at home for 24 hrs afterwards.

I am able to pick her up from the hospital and make sure she has some liquids for the night and tomorrow. I don't want her to suffer alone!

ARGH! That silly girl!

She's so brave, she could teach me a lesson!

dee~

p.s. I got a new date for surgery, January 7th @ 9am.

Just bringing it forward. Red Robin Thursday - December 13th!

Dee - so happy to see you are still with us. I hope your surgery goes perfectly as you have been through it with this crazy stuff. See you on the 13th.

ABC news last night stated that being physically active is a much better indicator of a long life. Get it moving out there! It isn't about the scale or the numbers, it is about the way we MOVE it! That research followed thousands of people and came up with those results. Makes the scale not so important.

Waiting impatiently for skinny here in Denver.

Hugs,

Michelle

Thanks Michelle! I'm glad to be with you all! I'll explain everything at RR. I'm hoping things work out well on the 7th of Jan too! I saw that same story about being active and healthy over being skinny!

Munchkin is so cute! She just called me and I'll be going to pick her up after her surgery! She's bubbly and just adorable! I'm excited to get to meet her in person!

Good thoughts for Munchkin @ 1230!

Hey Guys!

I met Munchkin and she's just as adorable in person as she is on the phone and here online.

She's resting at her hotel tonight and I hope sleeping like a brand new baby girl.

Munchkin, if you read this in the morning, I hope your trip home is easy and gentle on your tummy. Write us when you get home -- I'll be waiting to hear from you!

Hey Missmon, you got your BMI under 60!!! That's GREAT!

Hugs Sweeties!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
