Does Dr. K use the Inamed Lap-Bank or the Johnson and Johnson band. Also does he use a small or large port?

I am back!!! After a brief hiatus, and postponing surgery, I am back.

My original surgery date was 11/1, but I found out about 3 weeks before that my mom has breast cancer. I am the only one in town, and the only one able to help. Also found out that my 4 year old, Hannah, will be having surgeries #28, 29, 30 & possibly 31!! So needless to say, I am a little frazzled. :faint:

I scheduled surgery yesterday, for December 13th at 2:00! I am very excited, and am hoping that it goes ok with Christmas. I just need to keep telling myself that I can enjoy it much more, next year! Espically all the new clothes! :)

I would still love to meet everyone, let me know when the next RR is, and I will make every effort to get there!

Thanks and I am sooooo glad to be back!

Brandy

Mal thanks so much for that info, after reading through it I decided that I really did need a fill so I took your canceled appt. Dr K added 1.5 cc bringing my total to 5.5 in a 7 cc band. I can really feel the difference now. I am glad I went before the holidays. Thanks for keeping that appt open for me!!

Is anyone else having their surgery date on Dec 13th? If so, what hotel are you staying in? I can't decide where to book a room.

Oops, I forgot to ask a question. Does Dr. K use the 10 CC bank on all of his patients or does he decide which band to use once the surgery has begun. I have heard that it is better to have a smaller band. Is that true?

As far as I know missmona, he decides what band to use after he gets in there and judges the size of things. I really don't think there is any difference of which one is better, just which one is better for you. I happen to have the Inamed Band, 4cc (holding capacity) 10cm (length). But honestly, I have no idea what the difference is in them. Anyone else know? Such good questions!

Okay, Guys! I hafta share this.....my scale finally moved a pound. It's only a pound...but I'll take it! My scale moved a little! Woo hoo! And another thing, I think that I figured out this fill. If I drink absolutely nothing with my meal, everything works just as its supposed to. No pain, (unless I scarf too fast or its one of the no-no foods) I get full with less than a cup of food, and I am not hungry for a long time. I was PBing so much for about a week and a half that I was really getting discouraged and was going to get an unfill, but I don't think I need to now. But I was also having a few sips of Water with my meals and that was really causing some problems. So now I suppose I can jack the scale back up with the pie that I know I will try and eat tomorrow! hee hee!

Happy Thanksgiving! :hungry:

Hi Everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dee - i was a scale whore for a while, then I gave it up - but the weight loss stops when I don't really focus.

Mal - I hate the dressing room. Sometimes I think I look so good and then I see myself coming and going in those mirrors, with the terrible lighting that makes me look pasty and wrinkled. GET ME OUTTA HERE! My sympathies.

I am making it public. I am shooting for a 20 pound weight loss by March 1. I guess the pie and ice cream will have to go. I am going for a fill this week. Anyone else want to shoot for some goal?

I am totally lost on the RR dates. I think we've said the second Tuesday, but I am open to going more often to see out of towners. We are banded together for sure.

Hugs and happy holidays - yikes the shopping,

Michelle

There is a ton of information on DR. K. he is wonderful, after almost going to Mexico, and by some good fortune, i found him 5 miles away from me! His surgical team, his facility and everything is absolutely top notch! He has a great sense of humor, and his price reflects a person, that cares about his patients and wants them to do their best. He is very competant, and I am sure you can just google his name, or see all the posts on this sight about him...hope this helps

banded oct 12...loving it....down 28 pounds...

regards

j

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
