Hi. My name is Stacy and I will be having my surgery sometime mid to late August. This is partly because of insurance requiring the 6 month supervised diet and partly my choice. I planned my vacation for the first week in August before I started my official sleeve journey. I decided that even though I will be eligible for surgery at the end of July I wanted to enjoy my vacation with my husband and kids without having to worry about the pre or post op diet. So my plan is to go on vacation, work the week I'm doing the pre-op diet, and then have surgery followed by 2 weeks off from work to recover. Here's to hoping my plan works out.

That's great, enjoy your vacation! Before you know it you will be sleeved. I also had to do the 6 month diet and got sleeved at month 9 and couldn't believe it was my turn.

I am also on a 6 month supervised diet for insurance purposes. I hope time goes quickly. I am having my Month 2 group meeting tonight. I'm excited. Almost halfway there!! I will be done with the requirements early-mid July. So hopefully approval does not take long and I will have my surgery late July or early August :)

I started my process at 319.8+ and my first group session was about 14 days after I had met with my nut for the first time. I weighed in at 318.3 I am 5'10". I would like to find some Pre op's that are around my surgery date so we can support..motivate and compare results!! I am on my fitness pal (shaylaleah) feel free to add me!!

Looking forward to being on the losing team :)

Hi all! I have a tentative surgery date of August 19. I've been jumping through the hoops and standing on my head as requested :P I am going through McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey, Michigan. Dr. Nagle will be my surgeon.

Here's my journey so far:

  • January 21, 2013 - First appointment with Dr. Baker at McLaren Northern Michigan Weight Loss Services
  • February 14, 2013 - First sleep Study
  • February 19, 2013 - Appointment with Surgeon and Psych evaluation
  • February 27, 2013 - sleep follow up and got my CPAP machine two days later
  • March 5, 2013 - Had my EGD - found out I have a hiatal hernia and some no big deal polyps
  • March 11, 2013 - Appointment with Nurse Practitioner
  • March 19, 2013 - Second Sleep Study
  • April 8, 2013 - Appointment with Nurse Practitioner and Dietitian

I've managed to lose 14.5 pounds by keeping my calories below 1100 a day. I see the dietitian this coming week so I'm kind of curious what she will say.

Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing from folks as their journey proceeds.

I am Having my surgery mid month August. I am going to go to Mexico because my copayment is astronomical. Three times what it will cost in Mexico. No hassle too. I am getting more nervous now that decision time is here. Anyone else going to Mexico?

Hi,

I'm scheduled for August 26th! I started my journey back in October with 6mos of doctor supervised weightloss and weigh-ins. My highest weight was 291 and I'm currently at about 275. Im 26 and 5'5". Sooooo relieved to get my approval because insurance was making me jump through a ton of hoops and I just didn't think I was going to get approved. My surgeon was ready to do the surgery as early as next week but I just started a new job 3wks ago and my vacation time doesn't kick in until August, hence the delay. I'm only getting about 10 days off work so I'm hoping for a speedy and complication free recovery!!

Good luck to all of us on this exciting new journey!

I have the last of my 6 monthly appointments on June 25. Hoping to receive word from insurance shortly after that. I have managed to lose 27 pounds since March 8. That means I only have 74 pounds to lose. Of course that being said, I'm going on a cruise right before surgery. However, I am going to try to test out my willpower and eat anything I want, but do so in small portions. No sense in screwing up all my weight loss in one fell swoop. Plus, I won't be able to fit into my new clothes if I do that.

I got to meet my surgeon at the last appointment. Thanks to this wonderful community online I had very few questions. I am so thankful to be able to have such a great resource of knowledge. Realistically, a doctor can tell you the mechanics of the operation but if they've never had it done, they can't really tell you how it feels and how it affects you as a person.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
