Corsets: Posture, Waistline, & Kink

Recommended Posts

Just kidding. No kink.

So I had noticed that my posture is hunched over. I don't know if it has always been like that or it is new. Have I tried to "hide" the fat by hunching over? My shoulders are not held back, they are forward and slightly inward as if to protect myself. My spine is not straight, it is curved over. This isn't a medical issue, it is a psychological one that I had never noticed until I recently saw some candid photos someone else had taken of me. Maybe it was not as noticeable when I was big. I need to work on my posture.

I also lost my waist somewhere around 170 lbs many years ago. Instead of it being smaller than my chest and rear, my middle was larger. My hips are slightly smaller in proportion to my chest and my waist is not very defined.

Well...about two months ago I got a corset type of foundation/support/under garment. It has hooks and eyes and goes from right under the band of my bra almost to my hipbones. It was WAY too tight when I got it and it was a large!

I've seen photos of women who have corset "trained" their waists to be smaller. I'm not trying to be a nut case or kinky, I'm looking for some extra definition in that area. Yes, yes, yes ...weights and cardio, naturally ...but I'm trying this as well. I can't wear it for long periods of time yet, so I just have it on an hour or so a few times a week. I've also read that corsets and similar garments can help out with posture.

The study has commenced.

Weeeeelll.....bring a corset lovin' woman myself, I can tell ya a bit about the history. (Its part of my job. Really! It is!) You have to understand that women were corset trained as soon as they started their period practicly. Today, you can still achieve the training, but you have to wear it as much as possible.

Another note, a corset can actually weaken the muscles of your core since it becomes the structure that holds you straight. It doesn't exactly make you sit up straight, it HOLDS you up straight.

The best thing I ever did for my posture was to take an adult beginning ballet class. It was super easy, and was mostly streatching. It wasn't meant to teach me how to be a prima ballerina. I went one night a week, for 6 months. In no time after beginning the class, I naturally had good posture without thinking about it and my balance was so much better. My inner core was strong and balanced, and my tummy a little flatter too! :) It was a lot of fun because it was a few older woman who wanted to be a little active and have fun doing it.

I would dave the waist-cincher that you have for when you need to look smooth and toned under a nice dress or top....or when you need a little kink. ;)

Corsets are beautiful, a well made corset is sexy, artistic, expressive and in my opinion universal. A well-corseted man, or a man wearing a corset under, say, a tuxedo as opposed to a vest can be striking (you gentlemen you be wise to remember that - i am not the only one ;)

If you are going to wear it for shape, I would discourage it. it seriously alters your internal structure wearing it often and for long periods. I do have quite a bit of experience in this - take it as you will.

You described yourself as an apple. your best bet is to simply make yourself aware of your posture, consider some yoga, and stretches designed to open yor ligaments and tendons associated with the neck, sternum/ribs and abdomen, while strengthening your lower and middle back.

Larger leg muscles will fill your hips glutes and thighs out, and you will see more of a difference as your weight in your abdomen dissappears.

Thing is we tend to envision our weight as a layer - and it is, no doubt. but it is also within our abdomen. It is in our muscles, layered in the facia and tendons and ligaments and many organs can become fatty also. Right now you are seeing the shape defined by the weight loss, right now, you are in a position to define how your next several months will progress.

Start exercising now, "remember" your posture...sit upright, walk up right, adjust your seat in your car to where, with both hands on the steering wheel, your arms are relaxed but extended, chest open, shoulders away from ears. You body will begin to remember this, I promise.

The more attention youu give to some exercize, the better defined you will be - without your boobs ascending to your chin or not being able to pick something up off the floor....:)

I might suggest Shapewear to help mold your skin a bit, but hold off on really really really firm stuff for the other ladies' reasons.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
