I did kind of a dumb thing last night. I am 2 weeks post op and I'm supposed to start on the soft & mushy foods this morning. So last night I went to trader joes and bought all of this fun food to eat... all things I learned here. One of the things I bought was Tofu so I could try out the "dry frying". I've only had tofu a couple times in my life. I spent about an hour getting everything prepped and ready for the week ahead. When I was done I realized I hadn't eaten yet so, without thinking, I picked up one of the little "dry fried" tofu bits, loaded it up with some white tuna and low fat Mayonnaise and chowed down. I wasn't thinking... at all. I wasn't thinking about how I needed to chew, chew, chew. I wasn't thinking about how big the bites I was taking. I wasn't thinking that, hey, this is harder than what I should probably be eating right now. All I was thinking about was, wow, I'm eating tofu! Look how much Protein I'm eating!

Then the pain started... with a vengeance. I had been SO good with everything up to this point. I had, not once, experienced any pain at all with the liquids and purees that I had eaten up to this point. The pain was so bad that I forced myself to throw up as much as I could. Only a little bit came out (sorry for the grossness of what I'm about to say) and oddly, what did come out, wasn't hard at all. I did feel a little bit better after that but now I'm worried that I may have damaged something. I was WAY too soon to be eating that hard little piece of dry fried tofu.

Is it possible that I could have ripped open some stiches at this point? Could I have damaged something? I still can't believe I did that! I'm planning to call my doctor on Monday to let him know what I did. Has anyone else experienced that? Could it be that maybe my stomach just can't tolerate tofu? Love to hear your thoughts.

I'm supposed to start the soft & mushy food phase today, and I've been really looking forward to it. But, after what happened last night, I think I'm going to stick with liquids and purees for a few more days, just in case.

Hi, you know I love the tofu! Might have been a bit early for it.. I'm glad your feeling better today!

Don't worry yourself sick about it, but listen to your body if something starts to not feel right you will know.. But chances are you are fine.

I always try just a bites of a new food out at once and wait awhile so just try to remember that and don't let yourself get to hungry! It always leads to me eating to fast.

Chances are that you are fine. Just take it easy for a few days. I know of someone who was eating solid foods at two weeks out. I don't recommend that at all, I only mention it to try to alleviate some of your anxiety. The pain was likely because you ate too much, too soon, too quickly, but not because you did any permanent damage.

Thank you! That does make me feel a whole lot better. I'm just going to take it easy, stick with it, and hope for the best.

You will have many more times where you mess up and feel horrid. This is a normal feeling in the beginning when you over do it. It helps train us to make better choices. I doubt that you caused any damage because you would probably still be in pain if you did. As for adding in regular food....and tolerating it, take your time. Try small amounts of things little by little till you know if you can handle it or not. Treat your tummy like a baby's tummy.

The little bit that you threw up was the nagging piece that was making you sick. Everything else most likely went through without any issues. You should still call the doc and tell them what happened this way they can run some tests. A lot of people throw up many times before learning what makes them feel better so i doubt with one puke that anything happen. So just KEEP CALM... and maybe try some liquids for now. until you speak to your doc...there should be someone on call at your doctors phone number so you should call just in case. Good Luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
