January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

juno~

This past week was rough for me as well. I can relate to the portions problem. I saw somewhere,,maybe on the food forum, to make meatloaf mixture, weight it, and put it in a muffin pan. It makes perfect sized portions and freezes well. That way,I just pull out one serving adn there's no worries that I might get too much. I've not worked since my surgery Jan 29th and sitting aroudn the house has been tough. I dont go out much and I've not gone to the grocery, soooooo I'm out of my Protein drinks(I love Atkins Advantage). I usually drink one for brekkie and that fills me until lunch. If I get bored,,THAT'S when my head hunger kicks in and I have to talk to myself,,lol,,outloud,,and rationalize my feelings about being hungry. I talk myself out of any disaterous eating. I joined a gret gym,,but it's about 15 miles away,,so I've used that ecuse for not going. Luckily,,,I got a new job(they called me today!)and I KNOW that having a steady routine will help me keep on track.

I dont go bak to my physician til April 14th,,,my first 6 week checkup he said I didnt need a fill. A week later,,,I started really getting hungry and restless. I've only lost 2 pounds since March 6th and I know it was due to my eating larger portions and not exercising. I've not had any nausea, pb'ing, slimeing,,nothing,,no matter what I eat. I almost wish I would,,maybe that negative reinforcement would remind me never to do it again!

Hang in there,,,i guess this period is what they refer to as 'bandsters hell'. Keep posting,,there's so much experience to learn from on this site!

Hi all! I haven't been on in a really long time. I'm super, super busy....I got a new job and I had to move for training for 4 months. I have been on warp speed for the last month. My training is so hard and I've been studying an average of 5 hours a night...and that's after class all day. I really need to make time to work out and I'm for sure going to start using my little stair climber this week....I have to start something. Not only for the weight loss, but also to help me relax. It's so good to catch up with you all and see the progress you all have made in a month. I haven't updated my ticker, but i'm at a total loss of 24lbs!! Take care and keep it up! xoxo

Hey Purpose... you won't PB, slime, or for that matter, feel that much restriction until your 2nd or even 3rd fills (depending on how much is in the fill)... so be careful what you wish for. I've been promised it WILL happen. I just had my 2nd fill yesterday and definately feel fuller, faster.

Just came back from the doctor. I got my second fill I am a little tighter. I felt it tighten up as I was on the table. I believe I have 2cc now. I was only down 1lb since the first fill. I was told by my doctor that I can't have any liquid calories. That means no dannon smoothies or Protein Shakes. I have to hvae Protein Bars. Do u all know of any good ones????

The port pain he said that I may have pulled it the wrong way, but everything is ok.!!!!

Hi, all-

I have not been on here much, computer was down and then I had a rough couple weeks (sick, etc). Anyhow, I have had 3 fills and still don't think I am to the 'sweet spot'.

I had 1.5 cc put in in 6 weeks after surgery

the following week I got .75 cc more

the following week I got .4 more (for a total of 2.65 cc)

I am still down the original 15 pounds but just seem to hover there despite exercising more than I have in 6 years (at least).

I am eating much better and surely less than before surgery but still feel like I am stuck.

Has anyone else had this happen? Am I just being impatient? I keep thinkin I broke my band or something because I am totally hungry and keep eating. :hungry: I am making better choices but not great ones- I just don't feel full...

I am right there with you. I have lost about 4 pounds or so I think since my last fill 5 weeks ago. I do eat less than I did pre band, but it is still too much. I can also eat anything and can eat as much as my husband!!!!

He is 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds so I shouldn't be eating the same servings as he is!!!:faint: :faint: :faint:

I can eat as much as I want with out any pain or discomfort, have never pb;d or slimed. I am going for a 2nd fill next Wednesday.

I also have started exercising too.

It seems really slow on the boards lately. I haven't been on like I was just due to my step daughters wedding and trying to get my house back in order and my life back. Planning a wedding just took so much out of me.

I have been trying to get better organized and better with my time management and that means not too much time on the computer.

But, I still want to check in once a day at least!!!

How are you all doing???

I can finally type again!!! Got those darn acrylic nails off finally!!!

Okay, when I went in for my second fill I had a different nurse and I told her I was able to eat pizza, etc and was worried about my band having slipped or broken or something and she said "how did pizza end up in front of you" (as if to say I should be making better choices, which I already KNOW :huytsao ) and so I replied in the same tone "well, how do you think I GOT HERE?".

ugh- I know i am not perfect but 3 fills and I can still eat pizza, bread, etc and portions that are too big- she can't blame me for being worried.

Of course, reading on the main lap band board it says that some people have to get a number of fills so I think the key is not to give up- to keep going until you get enough fills to be in the sweet spot... I have to keep on trying....

Don't feel bad I am not hungry, had three fills, hardly eating but I don't find its coming off as fast as I thought. I did notice to that if you way your self every day, nothing shows on the scale and then all of a sudden I just drop. Everyone is different so don't let this discourage you. Thursdays is when the scale drops for me. That is so crazy!

I don't mean to be harsh and maybe I'm just verballing what I say to myself in my head but I think that using the excuse that I got here because of poor choices so don't blame me now if I'm still making poor choices needs to stop. The band will not do the work for us and you have to make better choices. No one will be perfect. I just got back from a week in Denver and put on two pounds. They are off now.

At home, I try to not put myself in positions where I have to make a choice between a favorite food and something that is appropriate for my goals. I do not keep bread in my house, or chocolate or cracker and chips. It is the only way I can help myself to make good choices. When I go out, I have a plan of what a particular place will offer and have it in my mind what I will order.

It is just something that has to be in our minds. I don't give myself food rewards...my reward for my 30 pound lose is a massage. I'm not exercising and I need to get with it.

So, fellow bandsters...you can do it. You have made the decision for the surgery and have had sucess so far with it. You CAN do it!

That kind of pisses me off that the nurse said that to you. Pizza is NOT a bad choice -- it's basically meat, cheese, veggies, and some bread. Thatgirl, on another thread that you started, I mentioned that I was eating a slice of pizza every night for dinner for the past few days. And last week I had dinner at a friend's house and we had deep dish pizza, so I've been eating a fair amount of pizza lately. Now if I were eating a whole pizza, instead of 1 slice, that would be a bad choice. I think this nurse is another example of how people can become fanatic and militant about banded life. Sorry, but I didn't get the band so I could be on a diet forever -- I got the band so I could eat like a normal person, i.e., eat in moderation. And doing so has allowed me to lose 2-3 pounds a week consistently (yes, even with pizza).

Thanks, I totally agree. Plus, I think that the pizza slid down without needing much chewing (I try to remember but I knew my bites were too big) was a good example that I am not tight enough.

I made the remark so she'd remember- will power didn't get me here and it is something I am learning but I what I am seeking from the band is a tool for satiety and smaller amounts of eating, which isn't working.

I asked her how much she had lost (I knew she had one) and she said 80 pounds when she got her band 6 years ago. I asked if she remembered how hard it was to change years and years of bad habits, especially while waiting for your new tool to get adjusted to where it does its job. She was quiet about that topic and I think it sunk in- we are all different and this is a process.... not an easy cure!

Hey everyone, just checking in. I can't believe how many fills you guys have had so far! I've only had one, I can feel some restriction, I'm not that hungry that much. On Thursday nights for volunteer training, I get a NF SF vanilla Latte (small) and it fills me up until I eat dinner at 10pm!!! Hopefully, since I only weigh myself on the 26th of the month, I hope to lose some weight. If it's not a lot, I'm going to call Fill Centers.

The volunteer stuff is going really really really well. I'd rather be there than work!

Speaking of work, I'm just keeping my head above Water, everyone there still hates me, but....I have a job interview on the 16th at Yale New Haven Hospital. The job has really good benefits, so if they cover lap band fills, I guess I won't be going to fillcenters that often!

I'm addicted to the gym now, I go on the treadmill for an hour, and trust me, if I had the time I would work out for another hour!

Keep up the good work everyone, I'm glad people are talking on here again, I guess we have all been busy!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
