Chinese food....yuck

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out. Had Chinese food for the first time (and maybe last time) last night. I don't know if I ate too fast and/or too much or what but this was the first time I have vomited since my surgery. I still feel queasy today. I NEVER want to feel that way again! I had chicken and snow peas.

Anyone else have a problem with Chinese food after surgery?

I don't know if it was because it was Chinese food or something else. I definitely do not follow the rule of eating slow. I usually only have 2 - 3 ounces of food at a meal but I am finished in about 5 - 10 minutes. I know this isn't good, really the only rule I haven't been following. Not sure if I need to eat sooner because I am "hungry" by the time I start eating and then I rush through it. I also didn't measure it and that I am sure didn't help.

Well lesson learned! But thankful that has been the only time I have been sick in four months.

Hi Sue, I love Chinese food and Japanese sushi but have not had either yet since surgery due to having read other posts where people said it didn't sit right. I was thinking of going out for sushi today but after your post I may pass!! Lol hope you feel better

I love Chinese food! My fiancé is a fisherman and we barter fresh fish for free Chinese from our favorite spot, so yeah we eat a lot of Chinese in this house! I tried it & it was just okay, didn't sit so well 3 or 4 months out. Later, after my gallbladder removal I tried again w/out the rice -just a little. I got sooo sick & felt awful. I still crave it (seeing the remnants from my family ordering it when I work late) but Gollum (my sleeve) still WILL NOT have it. He's the boss, and he runs the show with an Iron fist.

I had chicken and broccoli a few days ago without the fried rice and i have to tell you it wasn't my favorite meal post op. I didn't get sick but it made my tummy feel heavy and that heaviness lasted for like 2 days. Don't think iw ill have chinese until i am further out.

When eating chinese food out, you really don't know what they put in the food.....It has a lot of fat, sugar and salt. I had completely forgot about this and last night my daughter and I had Chinese food. This morning I woke up, weighed myself and have retained water...... Won't do that again...... :) No more Chinese food for me unless I make it myself and I know exactly what's in there.... I check all labels now on processed foods and 95% of them have added sugar and are loaded with salt.... :(

I haven't had issues with the Chinese food, but I have been careful with what I've eaten. Grilled chicken skewers, stir fry Beans, anything heavy Protein and skipping the rice and noodles. When I get Japanese I stick to sashimi, mostly. I'll splurge and have tamago, too :)

I used to love chinese food.. but im scared to try it now.. so I think I will take note of all the other experiences..and stay away from it... might be because the sodium content is off the charts high too.. and to think I used to love that.. oh well.. stuff I love.. I hate now LOL. what a change.

Heh, I wish I could quit salt. Since I'm no longer eating a lot of fat or sugar, salt's become the new thing.

I just ate shrimp fried rice, and was so sick, I vomited but it wasn't food that came up it was foamy and had blood in it. Should I be worried or is this normal?

I don't eat rice anymore. When we have Chinese food occasionally I stick to hot and sour Soup (very salty still) or something like cashew chicken or stir fry.

Facepalm/. It is NEVER normal to throw up blood ... the foaming is normal. Are u sure it was blood and not the colouring of the shrimp or veggies or anything? How far out are you?

I had Chinese food for valentines day, I shared Mongolian lamb with my partner. I had one small spoon of fried rice and 3 pieces of lamb. I was full but I had no problems. Maybe you ate to fast or to much?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
