How long were you off work?

Recommended Posts

This thread is very comforting. I'm scheduled for surgery on 3/11 and an hoping to only take 9 days off and not tell my job I'm even having surgery. I have a job that I can sit or stand and walk as needed so it looks like if everything goes as planned this shouldn't be too much of a stretch!

I ended up taking the full 6 weeks off. After reading multiple posts, I figured I would be able to go back to work within 2 weeks and only planned on being off from work for that long. BUT my doctor/PA suggested that if I have 6 weeks to take them, not so much for the healing from the actual surgery, but more for the dietary portion of ot. Boy, am I glad I did that! Learning how to eat and preparing the food was a HUGE part of the recovery I had not really thought about. It was really hard to go back to work after 7 weeks off (also took a week of vacation at the end), so much so that I was a little worried about going back simply because of the food aspect of it. I spent a half hour the night before I went back to work packing my lunch and making sure I had everything I could possibly need ready to go the next morning.

Thank you for all the feedback! I do have a job where I can sit a lot as needed and no heavy lifting either, so this makes me feel a lot better.

@Pepper Paul - I am in the same situation, I will not be telling my office why I am taking off. It sounds like we should be ok going on a "vacation". :)

My surgery was 2/7/13 and I'm taking 4-6 weeks off so I can get into the swing of my new eating habits before heading back into the office. I'm on short term disability until I get back.

I think I will take off about that long also. Being that I too have short term disability.

I had surgery in Mexico, and I was back at work in ~ 6 days with no problems. I work primarily behind a desk or standing - nothing too strenuous.

I too will be taking a "vacation". My biggest concern is my cover story when I get back to work. I don't want to outright lie and say I went somewhere, but its pretty uncharacteristic for me to take time off work for no reason. I'm thinking about just telling people that I took some personal time to finish some projects. After all, getting sleeved is a pretty big project in my book!

I have been wondering this same thing. I have not been scheduled for surgery yet, but I'm well on my way to being approved. I drive a fire truck for a living so my job has the potential to be rather strenuous. I wonder is 3-4 weeks off will be sufficient.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
