Can't believe it's been 4 Weeks since surgery!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Jan. 15th. I've lost 17 lbs since surgery, and 25 since starting the prep diet. It was coming off at about a lb a day and now I'm definitely in a stall! I have started a 90 day challenge at my gym and my trainer told me he is betting that I will win because of my surgery advantage... I didn't have the heart to tell him I haven't lost a single lb in a week! He is confusing me about how much I should be eating. Basically he thinks my calories should be no lower than 1000 and my Protein needs to be at 120 minimum! I just laughed at him since I can barely get in 60 grams of protein and less than 600 calories. Anyone else feeling more confused after talking to a trainer? I'm taking baby steps back into exercise, but when did you all start doing ab work. I want to add in some pilates, but I'm worried about hurting my healing tummy!

Might as well get used to it its not going anywhere lol. I'm down to averaging 2lbs a week and I'm only 6 weeks out.. oh well at least it means that I may not have skin issues if I go this slow.

Listen to your doctors plan. Remember how much education a trainer has much less how much they know about the surgical procedure.

I didnt worry myself with weight numbers or Protein numbers at first. Its to difficult to take in food and keep it down. I just listened to my body and took my Vitamins and supplements as directed. The weight will come off , it has no other choice. I wish i could eat 1000 calories a day! and im nearly 3 months out. My Proteins come from other places other than meat because its so hard to keep down and stay down. A little advice would be listen to your body dont look at the scale because it will frustrate you. Listen to your body it wont steer you wrong. Good luck

Just remember, losing slow and easy means less saggy skin.

I'm so sorry you're at a stall. But remember, you might not see changes in the scale, but that doesn't mean you're not losing inches. I would def listen to my doctor vs the trainer. The trainer is looking for you to gain muscle and have extra calories to burn during exercising. Im sure you're not at the body building stage yet! Lol ;)

Trainers mean well, but I take all my questions/advice from my doctor/surgeon - your surgeon is better versed in your needs after surgery than your trainer, especially being only 4 weeks out. Keep the faith! Stalls happen to us all (I'm in one after just two weeks out!) but it will continue to come off :)

I think I've read the norm is 6-8 weeks before working out, but I'm not sure what sort of exertion that means. I know many begin walking long before that. Not much help there

I had my surgery on January 15th2013 also :)

I haven't worked out with a trainer because my surgeon told me to wait. But he did say I can walk or speed walk.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
