GUs got a very mild case of chicken pox from his vaccine....a mild fever and two blisters. I think it more common then they let on. He also have a cyst-list thing pop up under his jaw that stayed there about 6 monhts and has now gone away. The docs told us not to be concerned unless it changed.

Susan, mine is at 8:30. There is a good chance we will meet. I will enjoy that.

I went to the doc today and I can shuck the walker, and he said I can try a shoe instead of the Gait boot. I dug every right shoe out of my closet, I managed to stuff it into two. One hurt like heck, and the other is tolerable, (a tennis shoe). He said to try it at home first. I have. It feels like someone elses foot. My walk is something between pitiful and hillarious, but I'll take it. I hope it gets better by Sat. We're leaving for vacation. I know ya'll are sick of hearing about my broke leg/ankle.

Lo2us, Sun. was grandsons B-day and we noticed a be knot on his neck. Later that night he broke out with what his parents thought was Chickenpox. A lot went away yesterday but is back today, only it is just redish, not like a pox mark. The knot is still there and kinda big. I am very worried about it. His doc was out of town, but is supposed to be here tomorrow. They are supposed to take him tomorrow if they can work him in. If not I am thinking about taking him to Texarkana. Who would you suggest that might see him? May have to take him to a walk-in clinic. Hate to, but guess it's better than nothing.

We use Drs. Paul and Lila Pappas on Richmond Road. They are wonderful. I've never taken Gus there, but (they are family practice physicians) they have a daughter who is his age and they would be great with him. They are really good about being cost efficent too. They give as many samples as they can to help with costs and will make sure insurance will cover any tests they need, as well as having a lab on site. They are on the street beside Sonic. Gus' pedi is Dr. Christina Payne, I'm not sure how easy it will be to get in to see her there at Collom and Carney...she's awesome too though!

Good morning everyone!:(

Well since I was banded 10/17/07, think I've lost about 20 lbs.:clap2: This has been a rough 2 weeks though. Yesterday I finally figured out that the severe side ache I was having all this time was GAS!! Finally bought some med. and within the hour it finally started dissipating!

I picked up my 2 yr old grandson last week and immediately put him right back down! For one second there, I forgot about being unable to pick up anything over 20 lbs.

I haven't been sick but have been pretty light headed. Doesn't take much to fill me up, never hungry but still want to EAT!:hungry: :hungry: :hungry:

The last couple of days I've been drinking the Kelloggs Protein Drinks and have eaten a scrambled egg and a little chicken, and I seem to be feeling better.

I have a desk job so I have got to incorporate some walking at lunch and breaks.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Sometime last week I think, one of the banded ladies was trying to get her horse up and she pulled on it too hard, causing her port to flip. She had been banded several months ago. I was wondering if we can NEVER push or pull again, no matter how long ago we had surgery?

I do ride horses and have been waiting till I was good and healed before mounting up again. Now I have reservations about it because a horse can do anything at anytime, and I sure don't want to undo what's been done.

Sorry to be so long..........later:)

Oh, Julie. I don't have any problems with my port. I have push mowed the yard, move junk around, played football with my son, and done lots of other things. You will probably need to wait a while before mountin' up. I wouldn't hesitate a bit. It's been 10 months since my surgery, but I'm not at all hindered by my port. Since I'm short (5' nuthin) I tend to smash it against the cabinet every once in a while. It does get sore after that, but not so bad as to cause problems. You will just have to be the judge on what you can and can't do. But....my advice is for you to wait a few months before riding again. Give your port time to "scar" into place. I know from experience you don't want to hear the next line, but here goes anyway. Maybe in the spring you will be able to ride and not be prone to "flippage" (if that's a word. lol)

That's just my humble opinion, take it for what its worth.

Grandson got to see doctor yesterday and the she said the knot is a swollen gland. Odd place. The "rash" left by the time he saw the doctor, so couldn't check that. Anyway he seems to be fine now. Thanks about the advice for the clinics. I will make note of that for future use. I will be leaving for vacation Sat. If I have access to a computer I will check in. Otherwise, it will be a week. Hope everyone keeps doing well. My friend that had Lapband in Dec. has lost nearly 90 pounds! I saw her last night and she looks wonderful! Take care everyone.

This last 20 to 30 lbs is gonna be the hardest yet... I think! What I'm scared of is what my body is going to look like after getting to my goal weight. You take care!

SugarB, glad to hear that everything is fine with the grandson.

How is everyone today? Did Halloween get ya? Did you stay in the box? Well, I have news for you.... I did not stay in the box. I had a couple of those little creme pumpkins. You know the ones that taste like candy corn. I enjoyed every bite. And I only had two, so I guess I did ok. Now there is a HUGE bowl of candy staring me in the face from T getting a bunch at church. Where is my willpower!!!!!!

Yall have a good weekend!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
