FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

I am so excited! I had my first post op appt Thursday and they took my drain out which was great as I was so sick of that thing. My excitement is from the fact that I have lost 17lbs. I was sleeved on the 27th and I sometimes wonder what I am doing wrong because I am not having any issues. I can drink almost normally with no pain. It isn't until I eat that I realize that my intake has cut down dramatically. I am just scared that if it is too easy I will slip back into old habits. I keep reminding myself that I lost about 30 lbs pre op by the changes I had already made I will not slip back because I know better. I guess I am scared of old patterns.

This is so off topic and has nothing to do with your post. I am just curious about the drain. I didn't have one. How long did you have the drain? Is it suppose to help You heal? Was your sleeve laparoscopic?

About slipping into your old habits i have the same fear. I'm only 2 weeks post op and find myself nibbling on little things to see if it makes me sick :( I slacked off with my psychologist appointments but i see that I'm going to have to start going back. When i was going it was helpful.

It's soooo hard for me to not weigh daily--- I want to see progress!!!! But--- I promised my self only on Wednesday so I won't get OCD. But it soooo hard!!! (Walking away from the scale now)

I understand.. I was just sleeved on 2/28 and sometimes find myself looking at the scale 2-3 times a day!

The doctor explained the reason for the drain to be because that was the best way to know if there was a problem besides exploratory surgery. I had it for a week.

I am hoping going back to work is going to help. I used to be a stay at home mom but now I go stir crazy at home. :-)

We were sleeved on the same day. I had very little pain or complications. I was determined to get my Protein in and have been very successful coming up with combinations to reach my Protein goals and still have some variety in what I'm eating. I found myself wondering if the doc did anything to me as well. Maybe 2/26 was a day for lucky sleevers ;)

I also was sleeved on 02/26.. had no problems with protein intake or Water I take. Im eating pureed food usually 3-4 times a day and measure out 1/4th cup. Im ready for someone to go in my belly bc im starting to get the hungries!!! Cant wait I have about a week and a half to start mushies and soft meats. Anyways surgery went very good. Spent 1 night In the hospital. Ive had literally no pain... its been great. On day 4 of recovery I drove to the vrocery store and did some shopping... I also have wondered if I even have my sleeve in there!!

I also weigh daily, it's pretty bad since I have a withings scale. It will link to my app on my phone and computer, also my lose it app I use to track calories, carbs, Protein. I keep telling myself I am not going to weigh but it never happens. I did start only logging my Monday weights in my book, along with my measurements and it helps me not feel as nutty.

Hi, haven't been here in a bit but I've been busy! I was sleeved feb 11. with one small set back, when they say introduce new foods slowly, they aren't kidding. I no longer tolerate any kind of milk, almond milk or creamy anything. So I won't try that again. Had what they call dumping, with cold sweats and a lot of pain. Thank god I did a lot of research so I knew what was happening. But still I was scared! Anyway, other than that I've been good, I'm back to downhill skiing, Zumba and walking. Feel pretty good too! The one thing that still is hard to get my head around is Small Portions! I had to go out and buy the smallest bowls I could find so it looks like I'm eating. I knew I'd eat less but it's still hard to understand how much less until you are there. I'm sure I'll over come it but wonder if anyone else feels this way. I'll be happy when it's just normal to eat this amount and not think "Wow I'm full?" I've lost 15 pounds as of last Wednesday, I only weigh once a week. I've read that this will slow down and maybe stall for a bit so I'm ready for that and the last big change, I don't die if I don't have coffee!! I was a coffeeholic and now I can drink it or not, makes no difference!!!

All in all I highly recommend the surgery and would do it again!

I went through Weight No More out of Saskatoon SK and INT hospital in Tijuana Mexico, the Doctors and staff were awesome!!

I hope everyone is doing awesome and living a great life!!

You are not alone! I was sleeved 2/13 and my brain is still trying to catch up and confused with the small portions. I started eating off of a small 6" inch salad pre op but Im eating way less than that now. I think its just gonna take some time.

I was eating off cute 4" diameter plates but have primarily been using 1/2 c ramekins that I put 1/4 to 1/2 c servings of whatever puree or liquid food I am eating and they work nicely on both the visual for your head and physical for your new tum

Sleeved 2/28 and feel great. Started pre op 2/14 and 3/8 lost total 31lbs. (19 on pre op) Saw surgeon and he was impressed with how good I feel. I truely believe it is due to: Walking daily prior to surgery- Quitting smoking 2 months prior- Not cheating on pre-op- Walking lots post up...even day 2...walking around every 15 minutes- sugar free lollipops days 1-4 for fluids. I feel back to normal, truthly better than normal. (I self paid and my insurance would not pay for complications, so that is why I was careful to do what I was told)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
