FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Sleeve done on February 12. Very quick weight loss until I moved to soft foods last Wednesday. Since then am gaining about a pound a day. Calorie count around 800, but I expect I'm slipping up on too much salt and not enough Water. This is an adventure, finally listening to my body and gaining awareness!

Sleeved 2/28 and feel great. Started pre op 2/14 and 3/8 lost total 31lbs. (19 on pre op) Saw surgeon and he was impressed with how good I feel. I truely believe it is due to: Walking daily prior to surgery- Quitting smoking 2 months prior- Not cheating on pre-op- Walking lots post up...even day 2...walking around every 15 minutes- sugar free lollipops days 1-4 for fluids. I feel back to normal' date=' truthly better than normal. (I self paid and my insurance would not pay for complications, so that is why I was careful to do what I was told)

Great job!

This is so off topic and has nothing to do with your post. I am just curious about the drain. I didn't have one. How long did you have the drain? Is it suppose to help You heal? Was your sleeve laparoscopic?

About slipping into your old habits i have the same fear. I'm only 2 weeks post op and find myself nibbling on little things to see if it makes me sick :( I slacked off with my psychologist appointments but i see that I'm going to have to start going back. When i was going it was helpful.

I didn't have a drain and didn't even stay overnight at Puget Sound Surgical center in Edmonds,Wa. I went to Hotel and came back in am the IVs to fill me w fluids. I felt great on day 4. I love cooking, so I find it hard not to test sauces etc...you should definitely go back and talk to someone good luck

Omg ...I know how you feel! I total have mass energy. I can't keep still. No heartburn though, but have prescription prilosac which I was already taken prior.

How far out are you on your surgery, and what are you eating?

I am 3 weeks out, and eating refried Beans topped with finely chopped chicken, melted cheese, and sour cream.

I also eat eggs, chicken salad (chicken & ff mayo), mashed potatoes, and of course, Protein Drinks and yogurt.

I have to admit that I did scrape the toppings off a pepperoni pizza and ate that too the other night.

I haven't had any complications or issues.

I am 2 weeks today!! I am still doing clear liquids-- although I did do the premade shake from gnc-total lean I think- 1/2 of it last night. I'm scared to move forward- I'm worried ill stop losing or a complication will arise..,

Did u keep losing -- same pace or slower/faster?

Any suggestions on how to get relief from this awful gas pain? It's killing my shoulders. I'm walking every few hours. It helps some but oh my gosh!

Request your pain meds so you can get it under control. The BESt thing to do is walk it off. Don't let the pain make you bedridden.

Oops!! Just realized your post is from almost a month ago. Lol I am sure you have no pain by now!! Sorry!

I'm 4 weeks out this week. I am just coming off of full liquids and can now have pureed foods. I have had pureed chicken with gravy over mashed potatoes, pureed f/f refried beans with smooth guacamole, and cottage cheese. I plan to try egg salad, pureed chili, and spaghetti sauce with meatballs and ricotta this week. I'm so sick of all the sweet stuff and Protein Shakes that I'm willing to try just about anything that is savory even if I have to puree it. I can't think about it too much or I won't be able to eat it. :-) I also love the lite laughing cow cheeses. They melt smooth and add a good flavor. I added a french onion one to my mashed potatoes and the chipotle one to my refried beans. It was yum!

I did hit a stall when I intoduced real food back in to my diet. The stall lasted about 8 days, but now the scale is moving again. Luckily I never gained...that would have really frustrated me! I think your body needs to adjust to the different phases which causes the stalls. I've started my phases earlier than I was supposed to, but my surgeon told me that it was ok since I haven't had any problems.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
