I'm starving--please talk to me about acid reduction

Recommended Posts

I'm on Prilosec and it keeps acid at bay, I had a hiatel hernia repaired during surgery and have not had any reflux since surgery. Prior to surgery it was horribly bad. For a couple days I forgot to take the Prilosec and was real sick, once I took it again I was fine. If I feel I need more I take a Zantac 150 and it works lithe a charm. I am 7 weeks out.

My doctor put me on 40 mg of omperazole, and that relived any and all acid issue for me.

I also discovered sometimes, I was eating too fast, not chewing enough, and maybe eating a tad more than I needed. Not sure if those are your issues too, but I try really hard now to pay attention to those three things when I eat.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this yet, but try drinking some Water, that can help too.

So there is an acid reducer (pepcid, tums) and there is a PPI which is an inhibitor.. it actually STOPS the stomach from over producing acid. You need something stronger than Pepcid... Pepcid is kind of reactionary and not preventative. Try something like Zantac or Prilosec or... there's a G one... can't think of the name. Not GasX.... anyway, think of something along those terms and not on the level of TUMS... which can still be helpful AFTER gas starts.

I take zantac 75 twice a day. Thinking of switching to Prilosec. I get Heartburn first thing in the morning and at night.

I have been on Prilosec since surgery. I have tried to go off it a few time since surgery and just can't do it.

I was told to take Prilosec every day for 90 days post op. I am only 3 weeks out, and I can feel it when I forget. So, I have only missed 1 day so far. But I have days where I feel like I am starving all day too. I wondered if the doctor didn't to it right or something, because others have no hunger at all after surgery. Don't know. I am usually starving about every 2-3 hours though. Only takes about 1/4 cup of something to fill me to the brim though... depending on what it is. I have been eating Goldfish crackers a lot, because it is the only thing that seems to settle my nausea. I know they are not exactly "on the menu" of puree or "soft foods," but I just chew them really well. They just really help, one of the only things that don't hurt my stomach.

Last week I felt the same. I felt ravenous, even after eating. I was taking Prevacid once daily. Switched to Nexium once a day and felt somewhat better. Bumped it up to twice daily and feeling much better. I also switched my routine up. I was drinking my Protein Shake between Breakfast and lunch. I was starving my the time I got home from work. Yesterday I drank my shake as a snack between lunch and dinner. I was able to cook dinner without having something to snack on.

I was sleeved Dec 17th. At first, I had no acid issues. Then after a few weeks, I would wake up with a horribly sour stomach. And I could barely eat something in the morning except for a baby cow cheese wedge just to get things going. I also had a lot of gurgling every 2 hours and it drove me crazy because how could I be hungry all the time?

My doctor made me up my Prevacid to 2x a day. So I'm taking 60mg daily. Gurgling has subsided and I don't wake up with a nauseous sour stomach anymore.

I'm still pre-op, so take this as a comment from someone who isn't sleeved... but I know that carbs will always trigger my hunger. So, for me, those Goldfish crackers would make me hungry. I'd suggest trying to eliminate the carbs (the first day or two will be tough) and see if that helps with the hunger.

I am on under 10 carbs a day and have been in ketosis and burning stored fat. In 3 weeks I lost 20 inches.

Wow! That is fabulous! Do you feel ok at that level of carbs? Can you please break down from

where on your body you lost those 20 in?

I took measurements on my upper arms, chest, upper waist, true waist, hips, butt, thighs and calfs. I have it overall, but primarily in my lower region. I do feel pretty good and my energy level stays up if I exercise.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
