Mexico?

I'm new to the forum and to WLS in general. I've attended a few free seminars and I have my first consult with a surgeon on Thursday. While I'm 98% positive I'm going to go forward with the sleeve surgery (pending approval) I'm still researching and trying to learn as much as I can about it in general. I'm noticing that quite a few people are getting the surgery done in Mexico. I'm wondering why? Is there an advantage with going out of the country (USA) for the surgery?

If it was an out patient procedure I would do it here because I prefer my home and my husbands care but for longer stay I by far got better and more attentive care in Mexico. My recent stay, there were 7 patients and 6 nurses or nurses aides, I was never waiting for anything. Push the call button and someone was immediately there. I'm not saying you can't or won't get care like that here but my experience was better there.

I am having my surgery done in Las Vegas from Dr Thomas Umbach. My surgery is out patient and I am kind of happy about that. I am not fond of hospitals. His self pay price was pretty good, too!

I would have to say that if someone else was paying for it, I'd rather recover in my own bed than a rented bed. Of course I would still research the hell out of anyone that's going to cut on me.
