Feel Gross After Eating?

Recommended Posts

So, as some of you know I had some trouble post-op with eating and drinking. I had a stricture and was just so swollen that anything I ate or drank was extremely painful. My doctor admitted me to the hospital recently and scoped me to dilate the opening to my stomach so I could eat and drink. I still have some pain with eating and drinking but it's better however now every time I eat or drink anything I feel gross. I don't exactly know how to explain the feeling it's just like I'm way too full and I just ate like ten pounds of fried food. I eat Protein Shakes and sugar free pudding and then things like scrambled eggs. I eat small portions so I don't understand why I'm feeling this way. Am I doing something wrong? Does it have to do with my most recent procedure? It's so frustrating, I hate eating but if I can't eat and drink I'll end up back in the hospital which I can't afford because nursing school starts back Tuesday. Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

That stink, Becky. :( I know how excited you were and planning and now everything you've been through.

Maybe make things with more liquid than solid? For example, a scrambled egg with a tbsp of mayo to make it creamier and not heavy? Right now, I'm on soft puréed, but mashed potatoes is heavy with me. I added more almond milk to make them more runny than solid and it was fabulous.

My little 1/8th of a cup of oatmeal...had to do the same thing. Definitely liquid-like.

Just maybe an option to help things get through while you are still healing.

Yeah, it does pretty much suck. I still can't eat or drink without taking the Lortab which I can't take starting Tuesday because I have to drive to class. I can try making things more liquidy but even when I drink the Protein shakes I get this feeling which is depressing. I just want to be able to eat without feeling terrible :(

This is one you probably need to call your Dr. about. I almost sounds like you are feeling the restriction but on to little food, maybe there is swelling issues or maybe the stricture is still a problem but it definitely doesn't sound normal. Good Luck.

Hi Becky, I'm so sorry :(

Maybe for now you can do tiny amounts and more frequent meals? I sure wish you were feeling better.

How much are you able to take in?

I wish I had a suggestion for you. I'm going to have to echo the call your doctor suggestion. You really should not be feeling that way. I can't imagine it's something you are doing. Sending you positive thoughts!

Well at this point, I'm more uncomfortable after I eat than while I eat. I eat like one egg or 4 oz of Protein shake and then afterwards just feel terrible. I can call my doctor again Monday but I'm thinking he is getting tired of hearing from me :(

I would do less, I know it sounds frustrating but honestly I'm 8 months out and I can only do half an egg...and I drink maybe 2 oz at a time with breaks

You just had another procedure so your intake is going to be minimal at best.

Do try and keep up your fluids...I understand tight restriction...even Water is still hard for me.

I am wishing you the best and hopefully you start feeling much better!

Don't worry about calling your Dr.

He is a professional and your health after surgery is his job.

Definitely call when you have concerns.

Most Dr's would rather you call to often then wait till things get to bad.

Yeah, I guess I'll try a little less and call him tomorrow.

I went to see him again. He is confused as to why I'm still in pain. He prescribed a new medication for esophageal spasms which he thinks I'm having when I eat. I haven't noticed much of a difference yet. I have an appointment next week and he says if it's not better he may have to go back in and look around. I'm hoping it gets better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
