newkat12 reacted to Slenderella in Nsv Prior To Wls? Heck Yeah! So, today is the day I get to report my first NSV, and I haven't even had my surgery yet!! Yes, I'm gunna brag and I know y'all will love listening.
I am pre-op, and I have been giving up some of my vices over the last few weeks in preparation for starting my liquid diet on 7/23. I am an emotional eater, I turn to food when I need comfort. Today was very challenging emotionally, and I did not turn to food for comfort! As bad as I wanted the ice cream, diet coke, doughnuts, candy, fried cheese and taquitos that I passed in the grocery store with my broken heart, I sassed my big ol booty right by that junk and left without buying any.
Take that bad day! That is an NSV, right? Anyone else have NSV that happened pre-op?
Happy losing,
Slenderella

newkat12 got a reaction from TakeDeLongWayHome in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodReporting in that I had a great day today. Stuck with my meal plan and had a really good workout at the gym. Thanks again to everyone who provided words of encouragement. It was just what I needed! I'm still getting used to talking about weight loss and being honest when I have a bad day. I usually just suffer in silence because I'm so mad at myself and embarassed. Just about all of my friends and family members are thin and it's impossible to talk to someone who thinks having 10 pounds to lose is a big deal. I have to say I'm actually looking forward to my psych consult. Pretty sure it is going to be more helpful than I think.

newkat12 reacted to italianlady13 in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodGirl you have got to stop beating yourself up! First of all we all fall off the wagon even after the surgery, but you have to remember new day new start. Put it behind you and next time before you reach for those ice cream lovelies just STOP, think and take a walk...get those endorphins flowing and then AFTER the walk see how you feel. Now when I get that feeling I reach for a cup of coffee....which is my new addiction. Before surgery i could not drink the stuff nor stand it and now i like it....go fig! Anyway, before you have the surgery see if you can book a couple of sessions with a therapist. Get some counseing for food addiction and your stress eating. Journal your thoughts, keep a blog vent frustrations without food....I know these are all suggestions you have heard a million times but I can honestly tell you you have to view food as your friend. Not your friend you indulge in but your friend you see in a healthy way. Don't have unreal expectaions about your relationship with food. For example am I going to tell you "dont you ever put that ice cream into your mouth again!!!!!!" No way, you like it you are going to eating again in your life, hands down. However, are you going to have three servings? NO! You're going to have one small helping and feel satisfied in the end that you have had enough to just hit the spot. Am I going to tell you that you are never going to have a day where you stress eat after surgery....no I'm not going to tell you that because you are human. Whatever you do if you have those days, don't beat yourself up, just remember that every new day brings a new beginning:) And don't forget to smile and be HAPPY!

newkat12 reacted to IMSKINNY in Absolutely DeflatedHey, guys, guess what? I was driving today (July 3) when my surgeon's office called and said I AM APPROVED for surgery!! OMG! I am so surprised! I had already made plans to go to MX after I spoke with the insurance company last week and they were soooo negative! I am still in shock!! Thanks to all of you for your advice and well wishes! And to everyone waiting on the insurance to respond, stay positive! It will happen!

newkat12 reacted to keldolbeth in What Do You Tell People About Ypur Weightloss?I lost 65 pounds in my 4+ months before surgery. My hope was that everyone would notice that weight loss so when it happened to quicken after surgery it wouldn't be as much of a shock. Apparently 65 pounds on my body isn't that much because very few people noticed. I've only told my immediate family and a handful of close friends. I've asked them all not to discuss with others. Unfortuately, my mom has a big mouth and that worries me. It sucks that she's the one person I really have to worry about.
My plan, like a lot of others, is to say "low carb/high Protein and working out," which is what I did prior to surgery. The reason I asked everyone to keep it a secret is because #1- I feel like it should be my decision who knows and how much, #2- if they find out I'd rather it be from me so they have their facts straight, #3- I don't know how I will feel about it in 6 months or a year from now; I may want to shout it from the rooftops, but, again, it's my life, my decision.
For me, my weight problem is a very personal issue and my friends will tell you I don't discuss it often. Therefore, surgery is a personal issue, albeit major. I will share it with those I feel need to know, could benefit from knowing, or will absolutely be supportive. Honestly, since joining this site, there have been times I read something and think "F' it. I'm just going to post it on Facebook for the world to see." Thanks for making me feel like I'm not a freak!

newkat12 reacted to PEvette in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodI can say the same...tomorrow is a new day, dont beat yourself up over it....just do better tomorrow...I would also suggest try to increase your water too tomorrow, just so those things you ate can move itself out of your system asap....
since my surgery I've had a few food dreams, and 2 bouts of heat hunger, and when they happened, and I realized what they were, I laughed at myself

newkat12 reacted to enigmachik in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodSo you made some choices you wish you hadn't made. You can decide right now to turn around and start over. We've all been there. That's why we're getting sleeved...our own motivation lacks at times, and we need a powerful tool to help us. That's what the sleeve will do. Don't beat yourself up. You're human. And you are on an amazing journey. Just commit to restarting from here. You're doing great!!

newkat12 reacted to Miss Mittie in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodI don't know about everyone else, but my cravings diminished substantially since I had the surgery (even though it has only been one week). I was a total carb junkie before and was always an emotional eater, but just going through the surgery itself has not only curbed my physical cravings, but the whole process has helped me feel so much more confident that I will be able to do this. Do not beat yourself up. It is OK. We all fall down and then get right back up. Good luck to you!

newkat12 reacted to elindoll88 in Stressful Day...and I Turned To FoodYou'll mess up on your journey. I was 3 months, 10 days following a really reasonable pre op diet, no shakes, no liquid only, and I fell off the wagon, sometimes just a little, other times with a spectacular binge. Cynthia Alexander said it best in "The Emotional First Aid Kit". "You will fall off the wagon thousands of times between now and the end of your life. Falling off the wagon is not the problem. It never has been. It's how long you stay off that's the problem". So cheer up and remember that tomorrow is a new day.
