Help! Worried about an incision

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 days post-op and this morning I noticed one of my incisions has a red circle surrounding it while the others don't..is this normal? Should i be worried? Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Unless it's got unusual drainage, strong odor, pain, or you're running a fever higher than 101, it's likely nothing to worry about.

Clean the incision and then put some antibiotic ointment and a band aid. Then on Monday call the doctor.

I gotta tell you, when I went to my two week post-op, they took off my steri strips and my incisions looked scary- but were actually fine- they were also red. That means there is plenty of blood flow to the area, which is a good thing. Just make sure you keep it clean until Monday, just in case.

Redness is a potential sign of infection. Is it warm to touch, or do you have a fever or chills?

I had redness around one incision (near my naval) about 5 days post op. It was warm to touch, but fully closed and without drainage. I also noticed it was hard around it. I did not have a temperature.

I called my surgeon, he met me in the ER on Christmas eve, and aspirated about 3 cc of pus. He then opened it up and it drained another 10 days or so, and it's fine now. No one wants a complication, but in the scheme of things, that wasn't too bad.

If I were you, I would call the surgeon. If it is an infection, catching it sooner is a good thing. If it's not an infection, no harm done. I believe any good surgeon would rather get the call than not.

Good luck, let us know how you do.

It's not warm to the touch and I don't have fever and chills. I thought I would just wait until my appointment on Monday but you're story has me thinking twice. Thanks for sharing!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
