Are you happy with being fat or obese? I don’t think so, at least I wasn’t. I hated how I looked and felt all the time. So what are you going to do about it? I hope that you are reading this now because you want to do something to change you entire life. If you are thinking about having weight loss surgery (WLS) then you are on the right track. If diet and exercise worked for everyone, there would be NO fat people out there. You must have 100’s of questions. Well start asking. That is the only way you are going to find out what you want to know.

I had WLS with Dr. Aceves 4 years and 3 months ago. I lost 105 pounds and have kept it off. I asked 100’s of questions, it took me about 6 months to make up my mind that I wanted the sleeve and I wanted Dr. Aceves to do the surgery. I knew he had a great reputation, and is a highly skills doctor with a team just as skilled staff members as he was that worked with him. I knew the Almater Hospital was incredibly clean and so this was where I was going to go.

How about you being you’re very own HERO and for a change do something for yourself. This is a life changing event, and you deserve it and have earned the right to change your life to being healthy and happy! You are slowing killing yourself with your bad eating habits. This is NOT a miracle cure, but it works and with some work and effort on your part you can be successful too. I am here to help and talk with you if you have questions. Please feel free to ask me anything you want to know. I will be honest and open with you. If you do not want to talk on this board, my private E-mail is: Suzannesh@aol.com

Take Care,

Suzanne

Suannesh,

Not to sound cocky or devalue what you're saying, but yes, I did love being obese. I am 31 (very young), never had any co-morbidities, I am successful in my career, because I'm not 'attractive', I am in finance, and women trust me because I'm not a threat to their marriages, men trust me because they have no ulterior motives towards me, and my husband is also morbidly obese, and he loves me just the way I am and was. I chose to have this surgery though because I realized I am not invincible. I didn't want to end up like my father with his failing knees, enlarged heart, and high blood pressure, I didn't want to end up like my mom with her triple by-pass, and out of control cholesterol. I love food. I know what I have to do to be successful, and I can't and won't be able to ever eat the way I used to, I also have no desire to. I chose this surgery so I could choose life, so I could reclaim the future that I don't yet have, because I know I wouldn't have always been 'healthy' at more than 100 lbs over weight. For me, 30 was the magic 'invincibility' is now over, number. To anyone thinking about this surgery, even if you are happy and fat now, think about what your future holds. That's what I did, and I haven't looked back since! Congrats to your success, and congrats to both of us for taking this journey!!

I have to agree with you 920..I have enjoyed most days as a plus size chick and I have no co-morbidities either .I've felt very beautiful as a fuller figured woman and appreciate my hour glass curvy figure. I took pride in my fluffy rear and ample bosom however I love hiking and even running but with my knees crunching carrying my weight it made for uncomfortable moments. I also know that with our weight it is very likely that at some point we will develop co-morbidities if we don't manage it now and Im not interested in experiencing that hence the wls!

Hello Suannesh,

I really appreicated your point of view. It has taken me almost 2 years to make up my mind that I need this surgery. I have tried almost all the diets out there. I lost the weight and regained so many times that I am all worn out. I have had so many well meaning people tell me what I am doing wrong or right and what I should eat or not eat. I have tried Low carbs, High carbs, weight watchers with not real success. With having 150 pounds to drop I am now overwhelmed with my weight. My knees hurt, I have trouble walking, I was put on a cpap machine, I could go on and on. I have decided to move ahead with WLS, I need all the support I can get from the great people on this website for moral support. It not fun being fat and right now I cannot even stand myself any longer. It is such a struggle just getting thru the day. This is a big decision and I am finally happy that I have made it.

Hi Suzannesh, it's great to hear from someone over 4 years out! Great job keeping yourself below goal!!

I am very interested to find out when/if your hunger came back, do you still have good restriction, do you feel your sleeve is still working or is it mostly you doing the maintaining, how what's your diet like in a average day, etc?

Thanks again for posting.

I don't know if I'd say I like being fat, but I do feel like being this fat protects me and isolates me from perceived dangers. I don't have to worry about being a target of anyone's because I subconsciously work very hard at being forgettable and being fat helps a lot, I'm just a part of the furniture in the room being 300lbs. I'm having surgery on the 5th which is getting very close and I know this is one of those emotional issues i'm going to have to deal with if i'm going to be successful.

Enjoy it no. But that being said I don't feel awful about myself. I always feel beautiful and I don't hate my body.

I hate that I'm not in shape, and I hate I have to spend twice as much in clothes.

I have been overweight my whole life (besides a year and a half of being bulimic and addicted to drugs where I lost 160lbs and for down to 140lbs).

I love to do active things and I hate that my weight stops me from doing a lot of those things anymore. I'm also doing this for my kids. So that they can live healthy lives and I can make the most of their childhood. I'm 21 and I'm not waiting until I do have health issues (I have none as of yet).

Hi again another person who loved who she was--I was also that way and much older that either one of you. My back was starting to hurt, I had a pain in my leg, and I also knew it was time to change my life. I didn't just wake up one morning and say I was going to have weight loss surgery--it took time and a lot of research before I know what I wanted to do. I had tired a lot of diets and lost weight ONLY to regain it back. You made the choice for better health and that was the right thing to do. YOU are the only one who could change things. This is ALL about YOU and no one else. I am so happy and proud of what you have done. Hugs, Suzanne

YEAH! for you. Reading your story was almost like a page out of my book. I had 100 pounds to lose, went on all the same diets only to regain it back again. I felt like such a failure. My body also hurt. Now life is GREAT, I walk 7 days a week, and I have walked now 138 days in a row without missing one day. I love the sleeve. The 1st month after WLS will be the hardest month you will ever have to do in your life, but it is ONLY 30 days and you can do anything for 30 short days. I am always out here to cheer you on and support you 100% of the time. Please contact me if you want to talk or have any questions. I am so proud and happy for you! Hugs, Suzanne

And I think not liking being fat is vastly different to not liking yourself.

I think I'm a champion of a bloke - just a fat one! :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
