Hi everyone, I am still waiting from the final word and authorization number from United Health Care. I have long since finished all my testing. The wait is killing me! Instead of preparing to my new diet I am eating every thing in sight thinking this is the last time I will ever eat this, do this, drink that, etc. Today I had a stack of blueberry pancakes, then we went to a hockey game and I had a hot dog, nachos, two beers, and then afterwards we went to a burger joint and I shared a cheeseburger and fries with my husband and had a root beer float. What am I thinking? I never ever ate like this even though I am obese. I felt sick to my stomach but I keep justifying "this is the last time ever I will be able to do this! I even broke down and cried this morning at Bob Evans before my pancakes arrived. Is this normal behavior right before you get a surgical date? I am do sad I will never be able to have beer and diet coke again. Not even a taste???? Please tell me this is just a minor freaking out session.

Sounds about right to me. The week before I started my pre-op diet, I had a food funeral. Every day I ate out, sometimes ate all my meals out, always somewhere different and always something that I knew I wouldn't be eating for a long time... if ever again.

food, which my life used to revolve around, is now just kind of this thing I do. I could go and eat the things I ate that week, but I choose not to because that all consuming hunger that used to be there no matter what I did... is gone. I don't want to risk going back and becoming the person I used to be. I didn't go through this to go back to eating what I ate. Yeah, I've had a bite of pizza (it was delicious!) and I had some some really good deserts (just a teaspoon or two) but my fear of failing is greater than my love of food.

I am also finding that I'm having a food panic, worrying about never getting to eat certain foods again or ever really having a full meal! I like the term the other sleevers use, calling it a "food funeral"... just can't wrap my head around the fact that I likely won't WANT the same foods... my head keeps thinking it will just be the same old me, cravings, desire to binge, big appetite, just with a smaller stomach! Every time I read a post from a sleever that says they no longer want to eat certain foods or food just doesn't thrill them, I start to believe it a bit more b/c that many people who have done it can't be lying!!!! Then I wonder if they are happy about it, but then I think that I've used food for my happiness for too long and I should eat to live... not live to eat. So indulge now b/c that is what you feel you need to do and be prepared for you new "tool" to help you manage what you are worrying about... that's how I am looking at it! Good luck to us both!

I kinda did the same thing. Two weeks pre op my surgeon's nurse told me I had better not gain any weight prior to surgery. I believe that she was warning me that he would nor proceed the day of surgery if I had gained.

So I had lots of food funerals but with a strong dose of fear. I had ice cream, sushi, Indian, steak, candy, cake, doughnuts, fried foods, ...even things that I would never normally want to eat. But I tried to keep the portions much smaller than usual, I was exercising a lot and I would cut back on the other meals of the day. I lost 4 lbs even during that crazy time.

As everyone Has said you are not alone we all do it to one point or another. The dietician at my Dr.s office even Mentioned that it is in a sense "Normal" Pre-op behavior all though they tell you to try to avoid it. I just think its part of our human make up especially if we all love food and I am sure none of us got here not Loving food for one reason or another..But Just like KarlaFaye said Your appetite truly does change post op. Foods I used to love to eat I can't bear to even look at. I used to Love Sweets and now If something is to sweet when I try to even taste it I can't even Swallow it. Don't worry. Take your time and work with the Tool!! You will do Fine!!! :)

One month before my preop diet I went on a 7 day cruise...I remember my boyfriend and I eating so much that by dinner time he was too full to eat. He said he was skipping dinner and I freaked out! I haddd to have dinner!!!! (even though I wasnt even hungry) we faught and I ended up going to the buffet by myself lol...then ofcourse we ate pizza and Cookies later that night, I was just addicted to food...luckily for me I went to the gym on the cruise and tried to eat in small portions at times(therefore I had only gained 4 pounds) when I came back home from the cruise, I needed more food funerals...I ate big macs for no reason, pizza, french fries, oreos....I remember eating the whole carton of chineese food all by myself, and I mean all of it! I literally forced myself to consume it all. I had a bad stomache ache and just remember feeling really depressed as hell. Damn I remember that day like it was yesterday....Anyways long story short I started my liquid diet 1 week early because of my food funeral lol I didnt want my doctor to notice that I gained weight! So I did 3 weeks of liquids...I lost the 4 pounds and some more (prob like 16 pounds or so)

Now I am almost 7 months post op! Since the cruise until today, I have lost 80 pounds! I do not think of food, I do not care for food the way I use to...I dont really like eating all that much...I just wanna see my body get sexier...It takes time but within a few months ur mind changes along with ur new body...U have the mentality of a healthy person. All you wanna do is excersize, feel fit and light....You will be amazed TRUST ME :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
