First Sleeved Christmas

Recommended Posts

I am three months out down over 45 lbs, but I am having a hard time with so many temptations around this time of year. I don't think I mentally prepared for it. I have thrown up a glazed donut, and pushed to eat more than I knew I could on more than one occasion because it is Christmas! Not good. Need more tools to help deal with a sleeve at this time of year!

I'm three months out and I know how you're feeling. Had a Christmas potluck yesterday at work and was able to resist most of everything except I ate the soft part of 1/2 a bagel. I am still refusing to eat sugar though. That was my biggest weakness before.

Years ago I went to some AA meetings with a friend who was trying to get sober. One message they pushed was to not pick up. I use that message myself. I don't say I can't have it. That will make me want it 1000 times more. I just say I don't eat that right now. So far it's working for me. So since I didn't pick that cookie up yesterday since I don't eat them right now, I didn't eat it. Hope this helps a little.

I am about the same and have to say that I didn't have the surgery so that I could never eat anything again :) I do enjoy a holiday treat once in a while, but just a few bites. This is what life after sleeve should be about...not continued diet and deprivation, which leads to where? Where we came from.

I couldn't eat a glazed doughnut myself. Sugar does not sit well, but it sounds like that is an issue for you as well. How about taking 1/4 the amount and enjoying that and seeing how that sits. This will not throw your calorie goals out the window. This is how I operate in life now.

I had half of a ww flat bread with fondue cheese last night. Previous to surgery I'd have eaten it on french bread and had much more. I enjoyed that with a glass of wine :) One, not two or three. Life in moderation is not a bad thing.

I do avoid one thing and that is pure candy. Hot tamales type of stuff. Mostly out of fear that it will make me sick but I also broke myself of that habit prior to surgery and don't feel the desire to pick it up again. But if I did want some, I'd have one or two. Not a box...one or two :) Moderation with out deprivation.

One of the things that has helped me (aside from the stricture that kept me from eating :P) is that everyone around me knows about my surgery and my restrictions that go along with it. Word spread pretty quickly that while I do appreciate the thought of being included, I'm okay with being excluded to keep temptations away from me. If it's unavoidable, I take the smallest bit I can, take an appropriate sized bite, smile, talk about how yummy it is and then take it back to my cubicle where it goes straight in the trash.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
