Did anyone use Barker Bariatrics in Dallas?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done on nov 21, recommended to barker by my husband's coworker who had the full triple nuke everything bypass :)

Do I feel they are competent? Yes. Is their staff friendly? Yes. Did I spend hours waiting in their waiting rooms and pre-surgery? Yes. They were on time about 10% of my appointments so far. :)

It isn't a deal breaker, but if you don't plan on them taking forever on your appointments, you will be sorry. Now to balance that I never felt rushed when talking to the doctors and I have spoken with all 4 of them. (Barker, Thompson, Hodges and Rodriguez) Rodriguez did my actual surgery.

Would I recommend them to others? Yes, as long as you know what you are getting into with their time management. :)

Dr.Rodriguez did my surgeryI never even met him.. he was supposed to come see me pre op but he never showed up.... I went to Dallas to have my surgery but was a little disappointed on how everything went there... the nurses at the hospital are wonderful!

That was basically me too.. I met him first in the OR for my egd but I was without my glasses so virtually blind and getting knocked out so I didn't remember much.

I did get to meet him pre-op but that was cold comfort when they were starting my surgery 3 hours late :)

My husband's initial appointment was with barker himself, mine was with hodges, surgery with Rodriguez and 1 week check up with Thompson. I also met with their PA last week when my incisions looked kind of questionable.

So I guess the thing to add along with the time management is they shuffle doctors around... But if you've ever been to a group PCP doctor they do that a lot too.. Maybe not as much and not without your consent :)

I used Barker, forest park is beautiful. I had no complications, I met with dr. Rodriguez twice and dr. Hodges twice. Here is my thought on it- they are the super store of this surgery, if you want personal attention where they all know your name this is not for you. If you want experience and people who know what they are doing then you will be fine with barker. They don't call to check on you, I have no local support groups but I can always call their office and get help and my questions answered. I wanted an experienced doctor who did the procedure correctly and that is what I got. I am pleased. If you want more you need to keep looking.

I also had similar experiences. Although I assume that Dr. Barker was doing my surgery and about 30 minutes before they took me in Dr. Hodges came in and stated she was. I had never met her before and still haven't ever really spoken with her. I do believe their office could do a little better job with communicating on who your doctor will be and at least allow you to see the doctor after surgery or during your first follow up visit. Other than that things have been a smooth transition with the office. They do a support group once a month and I have been going and found it very helpful. I wish I had known about it before the surgery. Good luck with your decisions! ;)

I had my sleeve with Dr. Barker in July 2012. I have had no complaints at all. Maybe I have just been lucky but my wait time has never been bad at all, lol. The staff is very professional and I have always had all my questions answered well.

I know this post is old...but I thought I'd see if any of you know what size bougie Dr. Hodges uses? Both her and Dr. Barker did my surgery and this was the one question I forgot to ask! Super curious because I have a wonderful amount of restriction. I am only about 19 days out so I know that I will be able to eat more as time goes on, but its great so far. Also, are y'all still happy with your sleeve? Thanks!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
