Severe Hair Loss

Hi everyone. I was sleeved July 4 and have lost nearly 66 lbs. I feel great, had no issues with adjusting to the small portions or hunger problems at all. Only thing is that I can't eat meat as I used to and because of this I have decreased my protein intake drastically. My doctor has me on protein shakes and I an taking vitamins and supplements, but my hair keeps falling off - A LOT!! It's scary to see how much hair I've lost. I am seriously afraid of really going bald... Kind of desperate really. Any suggestions or words of advice?

Does Biotin only come in capsules?

I am 4 months out and have been losing hair for about a month now. This article explained it well and really helped me accept what was happening--and assured me that it will stop.

Do a search on here and you'll find some pretty interesting hair regimes. Some swear by them' date=' others say it's inevitable.

I was sleeved in August. My whole life i've been blessed w long thick blonde hair. I'm 51 and not a grey hair on my head. Last month my hair started falling out like crazy. The final straw was when it kept getting in my food. Last friday i went and got it all chopped off. Super short. I love it. But what's weird is that it stopped falling out!! I have no idea why. But it looks healthy, albeit much thinner. So maybe cutting your hair and 'starting over' may be an option too? Good luck![/quote']

Me too. As soon as I cut it off ot really slowed down the loss.

I take a chewable biotin and there is also a liquid as well. The liquid is really expensive but the chewable is very affordable.

I live in Lima, Peru and just emailed my nutritionist about hair loss this morning. She suggested that I go to a plastic surgeon in the area who takes blood and separates the plasma from the blood and then injects the plasma in the head. She swears by the procedure. It is 200 soles for a session which is about $80 and you are supposed to go once a month. I am not sure what I will do. She said that her hair is full and growing so much faster than before. If I do it, I will let you guys know! Anyone else had this done or heard of it before?

oh wow im ftom quito ecuador such a beautiful area but oh my that seems extreme and never heard of such a thing really doubt i can find this procedure in chicago i think my doctor would give me a crazy pill if i ask about it lol but im gonna ask anyway!! yes please please let us know how it works out for you

I am having what I consider to be severe hair loss. I am 6 months post-op so I am hoping it ends soon. I always have to change my shirt before I cook so my shedding doesn't end up in my food (yuck). When I put my hair up in a ponytail, I have to triple the elastic band since it is getting so thin.

my hair regimen: of course continue your healthy eating with tons of Protein

im taking Biotin b12 folic acid and my mutivitamin

i also wash my hair only every 2-3 days and i try not to comb it too often when i do wash it im using a combination of garlic and pepper shampoo with garlic conditioner ( or u can also try garnier fall fight shampoo in the green bottle ) i also avoid any other hair products

i have notced less clumps and fewer strands falling

really hoping our hair stops falling i was sleeved july 12th 2012 good luck

I wonder too if there is a delayed reaction dealing with the bodies reaction to anesthesia. I have noticed that toenails have a bump on the big toenail that looks like it has been growing out since my surgery and the same thing happened when I had surgery back in 2004. Back then I recall my hair dresser telling me that they could look at my hair and guess how long ago we had been under anesthesia.

I'm with Rootman. I don't think you can avoid it. Your body is in a huge state of shock right now. It will grow back over time.

Mine is desperately thin right now. I do have a couple of spots on top that are nearly bald. I cut my hair, keep it healthy by not torturing it with heat devices, eat my Protein and take my Vitamins. It's finally starting to grow back in at 6 months.
