I haven't gone yet, but I was advised not to bother exchanging to pesos, that you probably even do better price-wise using dollars.

i just took american money, actually came home with most of it. i just tipped my driver 20 dollars for the nice drive into mexico. they can alwas exchange the funds themselfs. other tips i gave were airport shuttle, and personal at the airport that wheeled me to my departures. only one would except,my tip at the airport, but i still offered. make sure you tell the airline you need a wheelchair as the distances are way to long to walk. i could of never done it without the wheerlchair

I didn't even think of a wheelchair! I know the walking is good after surgery especially for the clots and gas.

I may try and walk it on my own, by we will see! Thanks!

My doctor's office suggests getting the wheelchair at the airport on the way home--airports are huge, plus you shouldn't be carrying anything. Be careful!

even though i had the wheel chair, after i got to were i needed to be for departure, i walked around pushing the wheel chair. you do feel a little weak, so best to have something to hold onto. wheelchairs are a free courtesy of the airline. please order yourself one

The Walmart does accept US currency, but they don't love it. Especially not bigger denominations. At the entrance to the shopping center where the Walmart is, there is a currency exchange where they can give you pesos for dollars. I'm not wealthy by any means but I do tip very well in Mexico. These people work extremely hard for very little. You can tip either in US or pesos, they are just greatful for anything. I would advise you to bring a fair amount of small bills just for this purpose,

I brought about $400, but the majority of that was spent downtown shopping for jewelry. I went to Walmart both pre and post surgery, a cab from the Marriott will run you between $3-$5. My support person was my mother, so we spent extra money for a room at the Marriot for the entire stay, Stocked up on bottled watter, Jello, broth. etc, before surgery, which made it nice after surgery. They also have safes in the rooms at the Marriott.

Whatever you do, bring SMALL BILLS. After the first day my husband was out of ones and fives, and nobody would accept a 20$ bill. So, lots of 1s is what I'd bring, things are cheap there. Example at a little convenience store near the hospital, my husband bought 2 hotdogs, a bag of chips, a can of coke, and a bag of Cookies, all that for 3$. At the hotel you'll want 1$ bills for tipping too, tipping the bellboy if you use him, or tipping for room service. Or to leave something for the maid.

I only brought US dollars (dollars, fives and tens) and didn't convert. I tipped pretty much everyone I was in contact with, my driver, the bell hops, room service (after surgery though my sister and I would walk downstairs to order her food and bring it back upstairs) We were at the Marriott.

I also went to Walmart and just ask them the amount in US and they will give you change in pesos so always good to have all denominations on you. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
