port flip??

Recommended Posts

My daughter was banded in July in TJ, Mexico. Due to a series of events she has not yet had a fill. She attempted to have a fill last week and apparently the port has flipped over, or has possibly rolled. We contacted her physican in TJ and he will fix it, but travel and time costs seem prohibitive. In addition, she doesn't want to go back. Not a bad experience, but she is afraid. She lives in Arcata, California (near Eureka) and I live in Idaho. (Boise area) Can anyone recommend a doctor who will take Mexican banded patients? We have had one estimate with a doctor in Washington who said a minimum of $5,000. If she had that kind of money she would have had surgery here in the first place. Any suggestions and help with the "flipped out" port would be greatly appreciated. Lapband Mom

Wow, I didn't know it cost that much. My port flipped as well, but I had the surgery done here locally. The cost was $16,500.00 (self-pay), but covers everything, including any complications, for one year. So, my port revision was covered under that and I never saw a bill.

As far as the surgery itself, tell her not to worry about it. It is very simple and quick and you are done in under an hour. The pain is very minimal, especially compared to the initial lapband surgery. I was able to return to work the next day with only a small amount of discomfort.

Thanks Susan,

She will be happy to hear that there is less pain involved with this surgery. I didn't see how it could be as complicated as the first since it's only the port not the stomach part. I'm hoping we can find someone to take care of all her needs. This is definately one of the drawback with the Mexico surgeries and she lives in a tiny very isolated town making finding support even more difficult. Thank you for your help. Lapmom

My port flipped too. I traveled from WI to CO to have my port fixed by my surgeon. Since I was flying home that afternoon, I asked that they didn't even put me under. They used a novicaine like anthesthesia instead and some "happy" valium like medicine. I ended up falling asleep, but was fully alert about 1/2 hour after surgery. The pain was minimal, no nausea or "icky" feeling either. It was great!

I was banded 4 weeks ago & have not had a fill, yet. I was wondering, how do you know if your port has flipped or if your band has slipped or any other problems like that. Will you be in pain just from a flipped port? I'm not even sure if I can feel my port, for sure. I do have some discomfort under my incision & around my belly button. Is that anything to worry about? It's not really pain but I am aware of it. I just feel like my body is getting used to something in it.I don't go see my doc. for 2 weeks yet. Thanks.

Do not worry! We have a tendency to read about things that happen to people on here and immdeiately wonder if that is going to happen to us and we start asking what does this mean or what does that feel like.... Try not to worry.

You won't know if your port has flipped until you go for a fill. Sometimes if it is tilted they can still fill it.

I still have occasionally feelings like I know something is in there. I'm over two months out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
