Going Alone To Mexico?

Recommended Posts

I have decided if insurance don’t approve that I will be going to Mexico and get my sleeve done. The only thing that I am worried about is my husband might not go with me. So I have decided to go alone! Has any other ladies gone alone? I will be honest I have never been by myself ever so that really freaks me out, but I know that I am going to get sleeved one way or another.

I have decided it would be between either Dr. Garcia or Dr ponce de leon. I would love to hear any feedback or advice that you have.

I was totally prepared to go alone to Mexico. I was lucky that I have a wonderful friend who wouldn't let me go alone and insisted on going with me at her own expense. I was very thankful to have her with me, however, now that's it's over I think I would have had no problem going alone if I'd had too. There was 7 in our surgery group that day and we all immediately bonded starting from the airport pickup location in SD. The staff was great also and there was complete access to call home etc so I never felt disconnected. If you have to go alone, it might suck while you're there if you're not used to being alone since everyone's experience but even if it does, I promise you it's still worth it to go!

Hi. I'm so new here I don't have a photo yet. IF I do this, I will be alone on the trip and when I get home. Is that doable? Did you need help? (and would you mind if I asked about your doctors and the costs?)

I just want the rest of my life to be better.

When you need the help, the staff will be there. The first night and day after was pretty icky but by day 2 after surgery, I was up and out on the streets of TJ shopping and getting my nails done. Bumpy rides in the car, etc may be a lil painful too. The only point I would say if you are going alone is loading/unloading luggage at the airport. Call ahead of time and request a wheelchair. An airline employee will come get you load up your luggage whiz you thru airport security and take you all the way to the boarding gate. The airport is too big to walk that far with your luggage after surgery and no point in trying to over-do it. I have 5 kids and other than making sure my 3 yr old doesn't try to run and jump on my tummy I had no problems when I got home. Had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work the following Tuesday. All the basic chores around the house I was ok with but very careful and mindful of what my body tells me and I made sure not to over do anything.

I went to Dr Almanza in TJ Mexico...the surgery was $4500.00 (paid mostly with my Med Flex 125 card through my employer) Total hotel cost was about $200.00 and my round trip airline ticket was $260.00. We rented a car and did some sight seeing as well so that added a little to our expenses but for a trip to have surgery we actually had a great time :)

I just got sleeved on the 25th by Dr Garcia. I fly home this morning. I flew solo this trip and it hasn't been bad. I did have $20 stolen out of my purse at the hospital, I believe it was when I went to have my leak test done. I should have taken my purse with me, but obviously wasn't thinking.

Everything else went fine in the hospital and here at the hotel. There's always been seine to help both places when needed. I'll request wheelchair assistance at the airport and will report on that when I post the full experience.

The coordinators I worked with took care of everything from picking me up at the airport, checking on me multiple times every day to make sure I didn't need anything and really going the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable. I used and recommend Ready4Achange.

I had money taken also, not cool!!!! Make sure you ask them to lock up any valuables when you arrive! I went alone and was perfectly fine, there were 6 other ladies there alone when I was there, everyone looks out for each other. I went through alighter me, Eduardo and Abraham will take good care of you. Make sure to take extra gauze, neosporin and take for afterwards, they give you some at he hotel but not enough. Good luck!!!

I was going to go alone but my mom volunteered to join me. I am glad to have the support but I was okay to go alone. I'm getting sleeved by Dr. Lopez through A Lighter Me in March 2013, over Spring Break.

I went alone but there were two other people having surgery the same day and several other people who had already had surgery. I had no problems. I travelled as light as possible, asked people to put my rolling suitcase on the security check belt and above on the plane, and used a stuffed animal between myself & seatbealt. No problems.

I used another surgeon, but have heard good things about both of the surgeons you are considering.

I went alone. Flew to San Diego on Oct 7, they picked me up and took me across the border, got me checked in to the TJ Marriott (very nice hotel, loved the chicken broth). Had surgery on Oct 8, and flew home on Oct 11. No problems at all, but i never left the hotel without an escort from the clinic. Most of the folks i interacted with spoke fairly decent English, and i have passable Spanish.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
