November Sleevesters?

Recommended Posts

Greetings fellow sleevers:

So I have to say that there has to be some reason why the doctors are putting preop patients on a liquid diet. I don't know what the reason is though. LOL. I spoke with my doctor and I told him about all of the posts that are on here and how nervous I was about going on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and his response to me was "why would I want you to be malnourished before you have surgery?" He placed me on a reduced calorie diet. Breakfast - 8 oz skim or 1% milk 1/2 scoop of Protein Powder and 4 oz fruit' date=' Mid Morning a premade shake, lunch 6-8oz low fat light yogurt no fruit on bottom and 4 oz vegetable or fruit, Mid Afternoon 1 oz nuts OR 2 Tbsp Peanut Butter OR 1/2 cup Beans OR hummus and 4 oz fruit or vegatable, dinner - 4 oz Protein, 4 oz vegetable with Tbsp olive oil (helps with the Fiber effect since there is no fiber in this diet), 1 cup whole grain starch OR 1/2 potato (plain) OR 1 slice of whole grain bread.< /p>

This is as close to a liquid diet as the doctor see's feasible. I believe the purpose of this pre op diet is to get my body used to eating the smaller quantities and eating slower and more frequently. I believe a pure liquid diet is difficult but our mental status is what's going to get us through this. We will be healthier and happier in the long run. 13 days and counting for me. I am excited. My husband is already seeing a new me. He's wondering why I am being so nice and am in such a good mood. I am not stressing and I am feeling so positive! Good Luck everyone![/quote']

I have read that it shrinks the liver which makes surgery easier.

Thanks for your kind words and support everyone! My surgery on the 6th went very smoothly and I was released from the hospital today. I've been walking for 15 mins or so every few hours. The only painkiller I'm on is paracetamol. I'm not really in any pain. Just a headache fom being dehydrated. my stomach gurgles an awful lot and it does hurt if I drink too fast. But overall, I'm feeling much better than expected. And my surgeon is pleased with my results.

Good luck to everyone who is still on the pre op diet. It's hard, but gets easier after the fourth day or so.

Hey November sleevers! Just had my pre-op this morning so everything is set for surgery on the 12th. I'm super excited but also a little nervous. Honestly, mostly right now I'm just hungry! This week long liquid diet is killing me and I still have a few days left. I have given in a couple times and had a reduced fat cheese stick but other than that its Protein Shakes and broth for me. On the plus side I'm down 5 lbs since Sunday! Good luck everyone!

Monday the 12th is fast approaching. The all liquid diet has been brutal to stick to. So I cheated, but in a good way. Actually, I was feeling weak and run down and had awful headaches when I didn't add some sort of other Protein to my day. With three full left before my surgery, I'm gonna stick to the shakes and broth and Water. I'm not that nervous yet, although I did have a nightmare that I woke up one day and I was bald! it was a crazy dream!

AFTER surgery, I plan to tell them that they need to "re-think" their two week pre-op diet  I wonder if they'll listen.. Good luck everyone!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
