Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Oct 3rd. I couldn't feel better, I have virtually no pain and have had no problem tolerating a full liquid diet. There is just one problem I have. food looks and smells good to me. I expected to be turned off by food and that I would have to be reminded to eat. Has anyone else experienced this post op? I'm worried it will be a future indicator to my success.

Wow! I feel the same exact way. I was sleeved on October 3rd too! I am having no pain, I am doing fine taking in about 4-6 ozs. at a sitting and food looks appealing to me too. I sure hope someone responds and I agree...I surely hope this is not an indicator or success with the sleeve.

I am right with you both! And sleeved on October 3rd :) My fiancé and his sister had garlic bread last night and when it came out of the oven it smelled delicious! Then when I ate some yogurt and felt that fullness, I really couldn't have imagined eating that garlic bread. I think we will always have a love for food but it will get better as time goes on

Most importantly I am concerned that only 4 days out from surgery I am able to take in 4-6 ozs. Is that normal? I was told by the nutritionist to not expect to get more than 2 bites the size of a small m&m before I was full. What gives???

I was sleeved October 3rd too! The only time food has seemed appealing to me is today. My hubby asked if he could grab a hamburger from Wendy's and I of course said that's fine. I'm taking in fluids just fine! I'm so ready for tomorrow when I can have creamy Soups, yogurt, pudding and Protein Shakes.< /p>

Oct 3 sleeved too. I am the same! food is appealing but I am not hungry. I am on clears and can drink 4 to 6 ounces without any issues. They say restriction only happens after you start regular food.< /p>

Well, it sounds like there are a lot of us that feel the same way, that's why I am so thankful for these boards. I was sleeved on Oct 2nd, and I've been doing pretty good, pain has gotten less, other then my stomach muscles hurting. Anyway, I've been doing good with my Clear Liquids, but I had a mini meltdown today. My husband brought home a loaf of french bread from the Panera Bread table at church this morning, and all I wanted to do was cut off a big hunk of it and eat it! Then my husband & son are having spaghetti & garlic bread for dinner tonight, and it smells heavenly! I can not wait until my follow up appt tomorrow so I can start eating creamed Soups & yogurt, but at the same time starting to "eat" again terrifies me too, I'm worried about something going wrong. As you can tell, I feel like I'm on a roller coaster ride....lol

I thought I was the only one! I was starting to think that the doctors just "pretended" to

Operate on me to see if my weight loss would e due to some sort of placebo effect! I was told that because at first we are on liquids, our stomach will hold more because liquids pass easier. Once we are on purée or solids I think it will be a whole different story!!!

And this post op diet has me so confused! My written orders say clear fluids for a week then modified fluids for a week then full fluids for a week. But day 2 post op after my leak test I was given a thick cream of mushroom Soup, yogurt...so I don't know what I'm doing. I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday. Hopefully I can clear this up

What is so different? I would read posts as a pre op, seeing sleevers complaining of not being able to swallow Water, getting fluids stuck, pain and dehydration. I was surprised that right after my leak test I was drinking 3-4 oz of Water, then finishing my broth, eating my sorbet and drinking water...and not over an hour either. Is it bougie size. I know I have read "size really doesn't matter" but I wonder. i was sleeved with a 40 fr , stapled right close to the bougie, because the surgeon felt this gave him the least complications and food intolerances.

It sounds like you are all doing very well, and there is nothing wrong. I was right where you all are at. The fact that you're not repulsed by food means you're healing well. You're having head hunger right now. It feels just like the real thing. Your capacity for liquids will probably be on the bigger side. Thats good.

The head hunger will not be permanent. As soon as I started eating real foods it went away. The Protein shakes really didn't hold me for long. Soft foods really didn't make me feel full. But when I started eating solid foods I was full after 3 bites. Now, at 5 months out I'm rarely very hungry....certainly not ravenous. A little bit of solid food, especially Protein, keeps me satisfied for about 3 hours (which is about how often I eat).

You are all gonna do well, just don't give in to that head hunger now. Keep drinking to keep you satisfied.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
