Having A Hard Time After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op and not really in any pain. Just having trouble with the emotional part. Has anyone else gone through that part? I had my band taken out because it was making me sick and couldn't hold down any solids. The hardest part now with the liquid diet is getting enough Protein and enough Water. I feel so dehydrated and just want to sleep. I'm reading all these positive stories that everyone has posted and I feel like something is wrong with me because I'm not happy at all right now.is there anyone who can relrelate to this? Thank you.

Just after for me was very trying, I had a ton of emotions. It's ok. sleep, sleep, sleep - with small walks, and stay hydrated, and get in as much nutrition as you can.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

The emotional part is different for everyone. Some never have it, some have it later, and some have it worse than most. But it's VERY normal and you will make it through this stage. The best advice I can offer is that "this, too, is temporary and will be over soon."

I know it's hard not to think that the way you feel now is how you will feel forever, but that is a fallacy. Your body is recovering from a major surgery, the nutrition it's receiving is drastically different as well. What it needs most if rest and hydration. Protein will happen for you when your new stomach is ready to take on more, just keep trying the best you can and every night tell yourself, "I did the best I could today, tomorrow after more rest, I will do my best again." Our diets affect our hormones as well, men and women, and that, too will regulate with a little more time. Try to distract yourself with a good movie, book, or small project at home -- or even better, go for a walk and breathe in nature! Hang in there!

I was pretty "blah" for 6-8 weeks post op. I had read enough to know it was pretty common so just kinda rolled with it. For most of us, the feeling great started later....

hang in there and get your fluids in!!!!

Katie,

I can totally relate to what you're going through. Had my band removed and I'm 5 days post-op. I'm feeling very much like you are. Not much physical pain but emotionally not doing so well. Lots of questions rolling around in my head. Trying to keep the negative self talk from getting to me. It's comforting to know I'm not alone. I will try to do some of the things Emfele suggests. Hopefully, that will help. Thanks.

Hi. I had the revision to the sleeve on 10/31 and I too feel pretty blah and just want to sleep. I think every day gets better. You are not alone. What I am hating right now are the gas pains.

I too was sleeved in 10/30 and was very tired and sleeped a lot. I had no pain, moving helps a lot, I also have had a hard time with the Protein, getting it in. The Water was great for me esp ice chips. I've just discovered that if I mix 16oz of skim milk with a scoop of protein and teaspoon of flavor surup taste great, I wasn't doing enough liquid with the protein and that 16oz is 42gm of protein. Protein is the #1 thing your body needs to heal. I feel great. Also ky doc said if no pain still take the pain meds at night for the 1st few days so your body can rest and heal.

Katie AKA NEWBIE ;)

welcome to sleeveland - you are starting on a wonderful lifetime journey to health and happiness :)

am i correct that you have no problem keeping Water down, not vomitting??? then you must drink as much as you can, then push some more fluids

drinking is very important!!!! if you don't drink enough you might become dehydrated - causing you to go to hospital to be rehydrated via IV's. :(

i had to go to the hospital for that, 2 months post op - will never forget the day, 2/14/12 - VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

these early days after WLS, water/liquids are the most important, IF you can get Protein in, you are ahead of the game - but if you are unsuccessful with getting in alot of protein, for now thats ok - you will be concentrating on protein soon enough, along with the liquid - you've signed up for alot with the sleeve :)

good luck

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
